The successful candidate will provide robust, conscientious leadership and will be responsible for the management of Specimen Reception and Pathology Phlebotomy Teams across ABUHB including the Grange University Hospital (GUH), Royal Gwent Hospital (RGH) and Nevill Hall Hospital (NHH).
The successful candidate will need a sound knowledge of managing a busy department, HR and quality systems.
You will be expected to oversee the day-to-day planning and organisation of Blood Science Reception and the Phlebotomy Service motivating and managing staff, prioritising a busy workload and overseeing all daily operations.
You will have support from the Deputy Pre-analytical manager (band 5), two Band 4 pre-analytical supervisors & two Band 4 Phlebotomy supervisors as well as the Blood Science department managers.
This is a band 6 position, the successful candidate will be educated to Degree level or have demonstrable equivalent knowledge and experience, such as a strong pathology/Phlebotomy, NHS experience, supervisory/management experience & a good understanding of quality management.
The post is a full-time permanent role, covering 37.5 hours Mon-Fri, although occasional weekend/out of hours work may be required. Core hours will be 7am to 7pm.
The department has full UKAS accreditation and supports career progression & staff development at all levels. Continuous professional development (CPD) is actively encouraged and supported.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the following department functions;
o Access to the department;
o Specimen transportation;
o Reception quality systems;
o Effectiveness leadership and management of staff ensuring consisting standards of performance;
o Responsible for overseeing the day-day planning and organisation of Pathology Reception and the Phlebotomy Service; allocating and re-allocating tasks and/or staff on a daily basis to meet service demand and delivery
o Liaising with staff across ABUHB to drive change and improvement for the Pathology Reception and Phlebotomy Service.
