Overview


We are seeking a highly organised and experienced Preconstruction Manager to lead our preconstruction activities. The ideal candidate will oversee all preconstruction activities, including Client management, project planning, coordination with design and engineering teams, developing a delivery strategy and handover to delivery teams. The role ensures that projects are strategically planned, financially viable, and technically sound before transitioning to the construction phase.

Candidates should have a civil engineering background with experience in the preconstruction or delivery of projects within framework environments. Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential to the success of this role within this established and growing management team. An ability to multitask and manage multiple projects at varying stages of the preconstruction process to meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities



Accurately interpret drawings, specifications, and related documents to identify risks and project requirements during early-stage analysis.

Prepare detailed and competitive tender estimates from first principles using Conquest estimating software, leveraging industry experience, historical data, and supplier input.

Conduct site visits to assess project-specific constraints, access conditions, and logistical considerations that may impact the estimate.

Lead negotiations and maintain active engagement with suppliers and subcontractors throughout the tender process to obtain competitive and accurate quotations.

Participate in and lead pre-tender meetings and internal sign-off discussions with senior team members.

Engage with client representatives during the tender process, including attending pre- and post-tender meetings to clarify project expectations and resolve queries.

Lead handover meetings with contract and commercial teams, ensuring full and accurate transfer of project scope, pricing assumptions, and identified risks.

Monitor and account for market trends such as inflation, exchange rates, and timing-related cost impacts to maintain estimate accuracy.

Continuously review and improve estimating practices by gathering feedback from site teams on cost performance and estimate accuracy.

Requirements



Minimum HNC Civil Engineering Proven experience in preconstruction management within civil engineering or related sectors. Proficiency in Primavera P6 for scheduling and programme management. Strong knowledge of Civil 3D for design coordination and technical review. Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively under tight deadlines. Exceptional organisational skills with attention to detail in planning documentation. Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
