With the continued expansion of our award-winning technical services business, Sudlows, working throughout the UK, with a growing portfolio of projects, have a fantastic opportunity for a Pre-construction Manager to join our successful business who wishes to develop their career in the field of mission critical engineering services. The position would be a great opportunity for the candidate to progress their professional career and development, leading the pre-construction phase of our data centre opportunities, working alongside a dedicated pre-construction team with support from senior management within our wider critical infrastructure team.

Role Purpose

As part of the Tier II Sudlows Critical Infrastructures Team, you will support in the enquiry/bid phase and leading the pre-construction phase of our Tier II projects alongside the Head of Projects and wider pre-construction support teams. You will be working on Projects with values up to 10m.



Working with the latest data centre technologies, you will work on award-winning projects as part of a forward-thinking and motivated pre-construction team.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Supporting the pre-construction team on enquiries and new opportunities, coordinating technical design, estimation, and scope development.




Leading the pre-construction phase of awarded projects, from award to delivery handover.




Ensuring that technical and pricing submission deadlines are met.




Understanding the commercial performance requirements of project opportunities and ensuring that this is reflected at business sign off.




Providing continued support, where required, to the delivery and operational teams.




Leading and coordinating the design development through RIBA Stages 3-5.




Proactively identifying opportunities for value engineering.




Ensure that technical designs and solutions comply with relevant industry and/or client standards.




Managing and mitigating commercial and design risk during the early stages of project development.




Chairing design workshops and design team meetings throughout the pre-construction phase.




Attending and hosting on-site meetings, project walk-throughs and site surveys.




Management of stakeholders including clients, consultants, external design partners and specialist subcontractors during the pre-construction phase.




Work with the procurement team as required to manage the procurement of essential equipment and services during the pre-construction phase.




Developing pre-construction and tender programmes for developing accurate projects management resource planning and costs.




Experience and Qualifications:

Qualification (bachelor's degree, HNC/HND etc.) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.




Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in M&E engineering, ideally coming from a critical infrastructure background.




Experience with AutoCAD/Revit - beneficial but not essential




Experience with programming software - ASTA PowerProject, P6, MS Project beneficial but not essential.




Competent in Microsoft Packages including: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.




Experience with Data Centre Installations preferable but not essential.





Skills & Competencies




Technical knowledge of M&E systems, design principles, and installation practices.




Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a meticulous attention to detail.




Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and create and maintain strong working relationships.




Able to prioritise, manage and organise tasks to meet deadlines.




Exercise straightforward technical or professional judgement using Company values, policy and procedures to guide actions and decisions.




Able to work within a team environment, prioritise tasks and manage time, to meet deliverable deadlines.
