Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and reliable Preparation Scientist to join our busy microbiology contract research organisation. This is a vital role within the team, providing essential laboratory support to enable the smooth and efficient delivery of high-quality scientific research.

The ideal candidate will be organised, proactive, and take pride in maintaining high laboratory standards. Experience in a regulated laboratory environment (e.g. ISO 17025 or GLP) is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:



Prepare microbiological media in-house and maintain suitable stock levels to ensure continuity of laboratory work. Wash and sterilise glassware, clean laboratory spaces, and manage waste/discards in line with standard procedures. Perform routine laboratory duties and general housekeeping to support scientific staff and ensure operational efficiency. Maintain and improve the laboratory Quality Management System in line with ISO 17025 requirements. Conduct daily/weekly/monthly equipment checks, including cleaning and calibration of balances, incubators, and other lab instruments. Ensure accurate documentation and QC records for all media prepared and tasks performed. Proactively monitor stock levels of consumables and request reorders as required. Follow all Health & Safety, SOPs, and laboratory procedures to ensure a safe and compliant working environment. Raise non-conformances and assist in the investigation and resolution of any quality issues identified. Write and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) and contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory practices. Work independently to anticipate and prepare for the needs of upcoming scientific projects.

Candidate Profile:



Relevant experience in a laboratory environment, particularly within a regulated or accredited setting, is strongly preferred. A methodical approach with excellent attention to detail. Ability to follow protocols precisely and maintain accurate records. Strong communication and organisational skills. A proactive attitude and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
