Job Description

At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Press Crane Driver to join our Forge department.


This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield. Our Forge department uses comprehensive techniques to create hollow, solid and near-net shaped forgings.


The Forge itself includes two open die forging presses (4,500 tonne and 10,000 tonnes respectively) which are capable of handling ingots up to 300 tonnes. It also houses large gas-fuelled furnaces for re-heating the materials to temperature (usually around 1,250c) prior to forging and vertical oil and water quenching facilities up to 20 metres deep, allowing hot components to be transferred directly from the forge or heat treatment area, into a quench tank to cool and harden..


As a Press Crane Driver, you will be working as part of a team operating a forge press and organising the crane driving requirements for the press area. Turning gear driving to assist forging at 5 Press.

What you'll be doing



Conduct all the department crane driving needs. Assist with forging and drive the turning gear on cranes. Pre-use crane checks. Crane lifts, in line with lift plans. Descaling forge furnaces. Moving forgings to the Press from forge furnaces.

About You



Turning gear driving experience is a distinct advantage. Previous crane driving experience. Thorough understanding of health and safety in the workplace. Previous experience working in heavy engineering environment is an advantage. Good communication skills.

The Working Pattern




This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, on a 3 shift rotation pattern, mornings, afternoons, and nights.

Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 - 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
