Brief Description
Reporting to the Director of Internal Communications and Engagement, this is a strategic role leading communication across Network Rail's national functions and programmes. You'll shape and deliver impactful communications strategies that drive engagement, support business priorities, and enhance leadership capability.
You'll manage a team of communications business partners, providing strategic guidance and fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Along with other strategic communications colleagues, you'll be closely involved in the transition to Great British Railways, helping to develop a modern, professional communications service for the rail industry.

About the role (External)
Key Responsibilities
Develop and deliver communications strategies aligned to business and communications goals.
Build trusted relationships with senior leaders, coaching and influencing them to improve messaging and engagement.
Champion leadership capability through best practice guidance and resources that promote self-sufficiency.
Oversee internal communications for Network Rail's national functions, employing c. 15,000 of the company's 40,000+ people), ensuring consistency and quality.
Manage a high-performing team of communications professionals, role-modelling Network Rail's values.
Establish frameworks for evaluating communications impact and sharing best practice.
Collaborate across the wider communications leadership team to deliver cross-business campaigns
Contribute crisis communications planning and delivery to protect Network Rail's reputation.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a confident, strategic communicator with a passion for driving engagement and shaping culture. You'll be a trusted advisor to senior leaders, a collaborative team player, and a creative thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, complex environment, working across the rail industry. You will also be an experienced coach and team leader, focused on supporting your team to deliver strategic communications.
Essential Criteria
Extensive experience in strategic communications within a large organisation.
Proven success in internal communications across a dispersed workforce.
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
Experience leading high-performing communications teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to simplify complex issues and deliver persuasive messaging.
Collaborative, adaptable, and solutions-focused.
