Job Overview



We are seeking an experienced and delivery-focused Principal Consultant - PMO to join our growing consultancy. This senior role offers the opportunity to lead and deliver Project Management activities and consultancy outputs such as pre-construction, technical assurance, project management, commercial and advisory services working across a variety of sectors including rail, utilities, energy, telecoms, renewables, and nuclear. A core focus and growing area is the Energy Transition sector where Market Infra offers its services to its client base including tier 1 and tier 2 contractors, infrastructure developers and specialist engineering consultancies across the UK.

You will work closely with clients to establish best-in-class portfolio, programme and project controls, while line managing and mentoring junior consultants and driving operational excellence.

Reporting into the Operations Director this is an ideal role for someone looking to combine strategic influence with day-to-day delivery across transformational programmes in the UK public and infrastructure sectors.

Key Responsibilities



Lead PMO projects across complex infrastructure, sustainability, and decarbonisation programmes Design, establish, and optimise PMO frameworks (governance, reporting, risk, assurance, change control) Act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, it is critical to understand their requirements and translate into tangible consultancy outputs Develop and manage integrated programme plans, dashboards, and performance metrics Support portfolio planning, resource management, benefits tracking, and investment decision-making Build capability across client PMO teams through coaching, training, and knowledge transfer Oversee internal teams and quality of deliverables, ensuring high standards of delivery and client satisfaction Contribute to business development by supporting the Key Account Management Process - identify client needs, shape proposals, and attend pitch meetings Stay current with best practice in PMO tools and methodologies (e.g. P3O, MSP, Agile, PRINCE2, APM) Champion sustainability, digital transformation, and innovative delivery approaches

Required Skills & Experience



Minimum 8 years of experience in PMO, project controls, or programme Proven experience working on infrastructure or net zero-related programmes (e.g. energy transition, transport, utilities) Strong knowledge of PMO methodologies and tools (P3O, APM, MSP, MoP, Agile delivery environments) Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills Strong analytical and reporting skills - capable of creating meaningful MI and dashboards Comfortable operating in complex, multi-stakeholder environments (e.g. public sector, regulated industries) Experience mentoring or leading teams, with a collaborative and growth-oriented approach Degree qualified (project management, engineering, business or related field); relevant certifications desirable (P3O, MSP, APM, PRINCE2, Agile) Passion for sustainability, innovation, and delivering tangible societal value

Pay: From 55,000.00 per year
