Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Principal Data Architect to lead the organisation's data strategy and architecture. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable data solutions that support business objectives. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop innovative data models and ensuring the integrity, security, and accessibility of data across multiple platforms. The ideal applicant will possess extensive expertise in big data technologies, cloud platforms, and database systems, with a focus on delivering high-quality data architecture solutions.

Duties

Lead the design and development of enterprise-wide data architecture frameworks, ensuring alignment with organisational goals. Develop and implement data models, database designs, and data warehousing solutions using tools such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Hadoop. Architect scalable big data solutions leveraging technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, and NoSQL databases like Cassandra or MongoDB. Manage cloud-based data infrastructure on platforms including AWS, Azure, and other relevant services. Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to optimise ETL processes using tools like Informatica and scripting languages such as Bash (Unix shell). Ensure the security, compliance, and governance of all organisational data assets. Provide technical leadership in the selection of appropriate technologies for data storage, processing, and analytics. Mentor junior team members and promote best practices in data architecture design. Stay abreast of emerging trends in big data, cloud computing, and database management to enhance organisational capabilities continually.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Data Architect or similar senior role within a complex enterprise environment. Extensive knowledge of NoSQL databases, SQL databases (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server), and big data frameworks such as Hadoop and Spark. Strong expertise in cloud platforms, including AWS and Azure, for scalable data solutions. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, and Bash (Unix shell). Demonstrable experience in designing robust data models and database architectures aligned with business needs. Familiarity with ETL tools like Informatica for efficient data integration processes. Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and implementation strategies. Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on innovative solutions for large-scale data challenges. Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders at all levels.
