Job Title: Principal Electrical Design Engineer - Data Center Projects
Location: Derry, Northern Ireland
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to take a senior technical lead on the electrical design of large-scale data center projects. You'll be responsible for full system design, technical coordination, and quality assurance from concept through to commissioning, supporting clients and contractors on high-performance, resilient electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and specification of electrical systems including MV and LV power distribution, standby generation, UPS systems, and general electrical services
Develop detailed electrical schematics, layouts, and documentation across all project stages
Ensure designs are safe, efficient, and compliant with relevant codes, standards, and client requirements
Collaborate with mechanical, controls, BMS, ICT, and civil teams to deliver coordinated system designs
Support site inspections, testing, and commissioning activities where required
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge sharing and process improvement
Represent the company at client meetings, design reviews, and coordination sessions
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred
5-7+ years of experience in electrical design, with at least 2 years focused on mission-critical or data center environments
Proven expertise in MV/LV systems design, UPS and backup power, load assessments, and energy efficiency
Proficiency in electrical design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and calculation software (e.g. Amtech, ETAP)
In-depth understanding of applicable standards and regulations (BS, IEC, etc.)
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a collaborative mindset
Must have the right to work in the UK
Desirable:
Chartered Engineer status or professional membership (e.g. CEng, IET)
Experience with commissioning and handover of large-scale electrical systems
Familiarity with BIM-based workflows and data center certification standards (e.g. Uptime Institute, TIA)
Awareness of energy-efficient and sustainable design solutions for electrical infrastructure
