We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Electrical Design Engineer to act as the senior technical authority for electrical building services within the business unit. You will lead the design, management, and supervision of complex electrical building services projects, as designated by the Director, providing expert technical input from concept through to completion.
This role plays a key part in setting and maintaining high technical standards across the team, ensuring full compliance with statutory and industry requirements, and delivering safe, high-quality engineering solutions. You will provide design assurance and strategic technical leadership on major projects, while also supporting commercial performance, client relationships, and the development and mentoring of engineers within the business.
As a senior technical leader, you will help shape the technical direction, quality, and reputation of the consultancy, contributing to its sustainable growth and to the wider Jersey Electricity group. This position represents a natural progression toward Associate Director or Director-level roles, subject to performance and business needs, and offers the opportunity to influence both project outcomes and the future of the building services team.###
Key Responsibilities
Act as the senior electrical design authority across the Jersey and Guernsey business units, providing technical leadership and assurance on complex electrical building services projects.
Lead and review electrical designs in accordance with BS 7671, IET, CIBSE, British Standards, and statutory requirements, covering LV/HV power, lighting, emergency systems, standby generation, UPS, earthing, lightning protection, and specialist systems.
Provide technical direction from feasibility through to construction, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality design outcomes.
Oversee electrical project delivery, including programme, resources, risk, and fee control, to ensure work is delivered on time and within scope.
Undertake technical reviews, site surveys, inspections, and progress monitoring, producing clear technical reports and peer reviews.
Provide expert technical advice to clients and project teams, resolve complex issues, and support bids, fee proposals, and change control.
Act as a senior technical interface with clients, contractors, and statutory authorities, and mentor engineers to support professional development and technical excellence.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the UK Engineering Council and hold a degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
Be a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and/or the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (MCIBSE).
Have extensive industry experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, typically 15+ years, with proven end-to-end delivery of complex electrical building services projects.
Demonstrate strong technical leadership, project management, and coordination skills, with the ability to lead work across multi-disciplinary teams.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
Be proficient in the use of industry-standard design and analysis software, including AutoCAD (2D), Revit (BIM), Dialux, Amtech, EOM, and Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrate a proactive, flexible approach to work and the ability to contribute positively as part of a collaborative team.
Hold a full, clean driving licence.
