Our team manages and maintains all mechanical and electrical assets across campus, ensuring they remain safe, fully serviced, and compliant with current standards and legislation.
Within the team, the Electrical section ensures robust safe systems of work for all electrical services across the University, whether Estates or Faculty-owned, ensuring these systems are fully understood and followed by staff and contractors. The team also maintains and updates all electrical records and management procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry standards, with regular audits to maintain our high level of compliance.

About the role:
We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to provide strategic oversight and expert management of our electrical maintenance services, ensuring the smooth delivery of planned, cyclical, and reactive maintenance while maintaining full statutory and legal compliance across the University estate.
In this role, you will contribute to cross-University projects and initiatives that shape the future of our campus, working closely with colleagues to ensure our estate is safe, compliant, and resilient.
As the Authorised Person for Electrical Systems, you will lead Electrical Systems Steering Groups, participate in Health and Safety panels, and represent your area of expertise in key forums, ensuring best practice is maintained. You will also have the flexibility to delegate to your Deputy where appropriate while maintaining clear oversight.

About the candidate:
Ability to advise and guide senior leaders on specialist engineering systems, with a focus on electrical services compliance and maintenance.
Extensive experience managing, developing, and delivering responsive, planned, and cyclical electrical maintenance services.
Proven track record in managing and tendering large-value specialist contracts (e.g., fire alarms, emergency lighting, electrical testing, high-voltage networks).
High-level experience in building services or a similar engineering discipline.
Specialist knowledge of electrical services management within a large, complex estate.
Ability to advise on and support major projects and refurbishments to ensure compliance and maintainability.
Holds a commercial Low Voltage Authorised Person (AP) qualification.
Holds a relevant Health and Safety qualification (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH General Certificate, or NEBOSH Construction Certificate).
