Our expertise spans the entire asset lifecycle, including feasibility studies, option assessment and selection, outline and detailed design, testing, and engineering support throughout implementation, operation, and maintenance phases.
We are recruiting for a Principal Engineer to lead our team working on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) assessment.
This role is based out of our office in Waterloo and offers hybrid working. We would also consider the role being based out of Glasgow.

The Principal Engineer (EMC) works as an integral part of the design and engineering team, providing expert leadership in the delivery of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design solutions for railway and energy sector projects. The role ensures technical excellence, safety, and compliance while meeting project deadlines and budgets.

This specialist role requires in-depth knowledge of EMC principles within railway environments, including interactions with traction systems, rolling stock, signalling, telecommunications, and infrastructure. The Principal Design Engineer (EMC) will lead EMC workstreams, manage complex studies, and mentor junior engineers to build specialist capability within the team.
A key aspect of the role is ensuring that all EMC designs and assessments adhere to relevant industry standards, mitigate operational risks, and integrate effectively with wider project requirements.
You'll bring... (your wealth of experience & qualifications)
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
Chartered Engineer status (or actively working towards it).
Extensive experience in railway EMC engineering, including design and assessment of systems to BS EN 50121 series.
Experience resolving compatibility issues with signalling, traction power, telecoms, and control systems.
Proficiency in EMC modelling and simulation software (e.g. CDEGS, MATLAB, PSCAD, or similar).
Strong understanding of CDM, EMC legislation and standards, and Electricity at Work Regulations.
Excellent communication and report writing skills.
