Job Description

Structic is a small, growing niche consultancy specialising in the design of facades and complex bespoke structures. As part of our ongoing commitment to improving and growing our business, we are recruiting for a Principal Engineer to work from our office in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Responsibilities

Applying the principals of mechanical and structural engineering design in the fields of building facades, structures and associated products. Working with the Directors to develop design policy, standards and procedures within the business. Assisting in training staff in implementation of design policy. Managing multiple projects. This includes liaising with clients, managing design changes, developing concepts, delegating design tasks to other staff and checking calculations. Where necessary, producing your own designs and conveying the intent through use of software, calculations, written descriptions, and, where appropriate, drawings. Reviewing current design standards and developing test procedures to test accuracy. Using this information to advise on the development of new standards and design procedures. Where relevant, to work with other engineers and external suppliers in the testing of existing and new products. Assisting clients in the development of new products and procedures. Representing the company at meetings, seminars and other external events that assist in promoting the positive image of the business.

Requirements

BSc(Hons) or BEng(Hons) in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering

Either Chartered (or near Chartered) in one of the above disciplines

Experience of using leading FEA software such as Solidworks, RFEM, Scia

Good communication skills with the ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely

Strong English language skills, both verbal and written

Ability to apply practical solutions to complex problems

Commitment and enthusiasm to make a change in the industry

Salary 47k-58K depending on qualifications and experience
