Principal Infrastructure Architect

This is a senior technology role focused on Cloud architecture with an opportunity to help the organisation complete their data centre exit programme, by defining appropriate technology solutions and building roadmaps to meet our chosen target. The successful applicant will excel in working across multiple infrastructure domains, including, compute, database, observability, storage and workforce technology with experience leading and assuring solution designs meet product intent, being a key enabler for engineering delivery.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do:

  • Collaborate with some great product managers and architects on the overall product roadmap for key business goals, extending the technology planning horizon in order to deliver them
  • Seek perspectives from the consulting technology groups (Engineering, Tech Ops, Networks, Cyber, Shared Tech, Enterprise Architecture) to ensure architectures meet the wider needs
  • Develop the choices, decisions and guardrails to assess new solutions against alignment or convergence from targets and roadmaps
  • Assess and manage alignment - or divergence - to Target Architectures via Technical Design Reviews and help develop enterprise and UK Line of Business common capabilities
  • Be a change agent driving continuous improvement in architecture process methodology and best practices
  • Blend vision and perfection with pragmatism and realism to help navigate through trade-offs, typically involving time, cost, quality, scope and risk
  • Enable engineering teams to search and discover information about capabilities, tools and source code that can be reused to address their needs.
  • Highlight the engineering skills needed to allow us to move towards our target technology architecture
  • Foster a culture of knowledge sharing by acting as a thought catalyst by keeping the community up to date on industry, enterprise and business trends. Inject this context into technology decisions
  • Make everyone welcome and seek different perspectives, model inclusion
What we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:

  • You have experience in solutions architecture in an environment of an internal/external IT technology estate and in-house and third-party delivery capabilities.
  • You are skilled and knowledgeable across architectural areas comprising infrastructure, application and management information domains, including Public Cloud.
  • You are comfortable in reaching technical trade-offs between short-term team and long-term business needs.
  • You are willing and excited to get into the guts of a completely data-driven, highly regulated industry with a lot of existing complexity.
  • You work well with diverse teams, partnering across the organisation to navigate an ambiguous and quickly changing environment.
  • AWS certified solution architect or similar

This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office.
