Principal Pharmacist Operations

Job Description

The postholder will work alongside the Deputy Chief Pharmacist Operations to provide professional and clinical strategic leadership and advice to the Chief Pharmacist, and the Trust, on the development of patient services. Specifically, they will be responsible for leading, delivering, developing, managing and evaluating clinical practice in trust delivered outpatient services as well as ensuring medicines are supplied against the most appropriate pathways



To provide professional and clinical strategic leadership advice on the development of patient services. To provide direct support and clinical supervision to junior and trainee pharmacists rotating through patient services to support clinical development and build confidence in a fast-paced environment. To proactively identify and encourage the adoption of best practices, ensuring guidelines and procedures are regularly updated to align with local and national standards, To ensure quality standards and performance indicators are agreed and in place for any new service/ transformation projects being implemented within patient services. To engage with Willow analysts and other trust sites in the development of digital build to optimise functionality of outpatient prescribing pathways.

To provide professional and clinical strategic leadership advice on the development of patient services.

To actively contribute to the development and review of patient services plans & policies.



To actively contribute to the development of the overall strategic vision for the pharmacy service, including strategy development, service planning, budgeting and financial management as part of outpatient service developments and transformation initiatives within pharmacy and across the Trust.



To actively participate in the Local Faculty Group, representing Patient Services, to ensure that training and mentoring of junior pharmacists is in-line with local and national education and training initiatives.



To actively contribute to Pharmacy Quality Governance meetings and PSIRF panels, representing patient services, and to take the lead in developing local action plans and learning responses for outpatient pharmacy services. To lead on identifying risks in relation to clinical screening and final checking of medication in the outpatient pharmacy setting and develop associated mitigations and strategies aimed at risk reduction/ elimination.
