An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Principal Planning Enforcement Officer who will be able to work as part of a team and make a broad contribution to the provision of the planning enforcement function of the Service.

The role

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and talented individual for this role. As the Principal Planning Enforcement Officer, you will need to use a variety of professional skills, experience and competencies and provide professional expertise to contribute to the delivery of an efficient and effective planning enforcement service.

As part of the role you will be required to act as the lead in Enforcement matters requiring formal action and you will implement and assist the management and provision of a consistent and sustained approach to planning enforcement against unauthorised development within the District. You will also be responsible for workload management within the Enforcement team and for providing mentoring to members of the team.

There may be occasions where it would be expedient to work unsocial hours or outside normal office hours and it is possible that these occasions may be at short notice.

The ideal candidate would have the following skills and attributes

The ideal candidate will have had previous experience of planning enforcement and will be able to make an immediate and on-going contribution to the work of a busy service. Consideration will be given to candidates with experience in a similar legislative regime / relevant field if it can be demonstrated that such experience will enable an immediate contribution in the Planning service environment.

You will need to be well organised with good communication skills, be flexible and adaptable, and able to maintain and update files and records.

Appointment to the Principal Planning Enforcement Officer post is subject to having suitable qualifications and experience. The successful candidate at this level will also be confident in dealing with difficult or confrontational situations as well as explaining the often complex elements of planning law, and experience in an Appeal process and / or Court hearings will be extremely important.

This role has the option for offering less hours than advertised, providing you meet the requirements of the role and service as determined by the recruiting manager.

  • You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement starting at 27 days per annum (plus public holidays). Rising by an additional 5 days after 5 years\' service.
All roles will be subject to an annual banding pay review until the top of the pay grade is reached (following successfully passing probation). All roles will be eligible for the annual national pay award.
