Job Description

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Radiotherapy Electronics Engineer to participate in delivering a high quality maintenance & repair service to our Radiotherapy Service. This is an opportunity to join a team of highly experienced engineers. You will be educated to B.Sc. degree level or equivalent in electronics and electrical engineering, with minimum 10 years of experience in the field of radiotherapy, working with linear accelerators (linacs).



Linacs incorporate high voltage systems, high vacuum systems, high power RF systems and circuits, cooling systems, microcontroller based systems, pressurised gas systems and complex mechanical systems; and you will be expected to work in any of these areas. This creates a dynamic working environment where each day can hold a multitude of challenges and opportunities to learn. The department boasts fully equipped electronics and mechanical workshops to enable on site repairs.



The Radiation Physics Department provides a full range of complex radiotherapy scientific and technical services at Charing Cross Hospital (CHX) and Hammersmith Hospital (HH). The major clinical equipment on the CHX site currently includes four Varian TB linacs, two of which are being replaced with two Accuray Radiaxcts, a Siemens CT unit and an X-Strahl kV unit. There is an additional Varian TB and a Flexitron HDR brachytherapy unit at the HH.



Suitable applicants with less experience may be considered for appointment at a lower band.



Keep relevant scientific and technical records of work performed. In particular, ensure that the equipment management computer database is operated in an accurate, methodical manner with work being logged as it progresses until completion

Member of the team responsible for the day-to-day running of the PPM schedules for radiotherapy diagnostic and treatment machines and for keeping careful records of all the work performed

Prioritise work in accordance with the Department/Section's procedures and competing service demands. Propose changes to working practices and procedures within the Electronics Section.

Assist other groups within the Department in the development and construction of new and novel devices to support clinical activity and research.

Carry out all duties in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act, relevant Statutory Regulations, Approved Codes of Conduct and Local Rules. Report to the section Manager any potential breaches.

Acquiring specific knowledge on particular items of equipment. Ensure clients receive a high quality, prompt and efficient service and are kept up to date on the progress of their outstanding work.
