Role description:
Renewable Energy, low carbon fuels and storage technologies are playing a cornerstone role in an evolving energy sector. Arcadis is looking to further develop its leadership, teams and activities in this area including roof and ground mounted solar, wind, batteries, heat decarbonisation and hydrogen. We have a range of projects across central government, local authority, and corporate clients. This role will be responsible for the growth and development of renewable energy Advisory Services within our wider Sustainability Advisory Team. At a high level this will include key responsibilities and accountabilities to develop and drive a growth plan, lead on work winning and key pursuits, develop key client relationship, develop client solutions, and lead on or oversee technical delivery of projects As a growing team, we are focused embedding sustainability within our projects by providing a range of services to support our clients on their journey to carbon net zero. The team offers an array of services to our clients from net zero strategies, energy Master planning, renewable and battery storage technical feasibility, renewable energy due diligence projects, carbon accounting, renewable technologies and energy transition advice. Role accountabilities:
Business Development

  • The Principal Renewable Energy Consultant will be responsible for the growth and development of renewables advisory services. You will be required too:
    • Develop a Growth Strategy for renewable, storage and low carbon energy generation services
    • Build Client relationships (internal and external clients) to help develop, shape and influence Client thinking and develop trusted advisor status.
    • Develop solutions and lead on pursuits/ tenders across all aspects (technical/ commercial/ financial) to develop winning bids.
Technical Delivery
  • Undertaking technology and site feasibility assessments for primarily ground and roof mounted solar, battery storage and wind technologies \xe2\x80\x93 whilst knowledge of bioenergy, wave, hydro, energy from waste and hydrogen would be desirable
  • Experience of technical and financial and commercial assessments of renewable energy technologies as part of feasibility and due diligence projects
  • Development of design information and drawings to support planning applications
  • Experience of support with renewable energy procurement through the development of outline design, specifications, employee requirements and review of contractor responses
  • Experience of undertaking DNO (Distribution Network Operator) applications for renewable technologies and consultation and engagement with DNO and other regulatory bodies to support connection to the grid
  • Knowledge and use renewable modelling software for solar (e.g. helioscope, PV Syst), wind and other technologies to support feasibility and design
  • Review the energy markets and commercial opportunities including battery storge, Power Purchase Agreements, Private wire and IDNO considerations
  • Provide guidance on project delivery models and risks including ESCo and other delivery vehicles
  • Carbon management and strategy development \xe2\x80\x93 understanding of energy and carbon management plans and supporting clients through a carbon reduction programme
  • Interface/ work with energy and data from designers, specialists, manufacturers to gather project and wider information where required.
  • Assist or lead on business development activities including client presentations and preparation of bids
Line Management/ Team Development
  • Potential for line management team role as part of the wider growth plan for renewable energy services
  • As a senior member of the Sustainability Advisory Team, you will be expected to train and support for junior team members, to develop capacity and capability for district heating advisory, alongside recruitment
  • Where recruitment is identified as a need, you will lead on developing job roles and responsibilities and the recruitment process in conjunction with the Sustainability Advisory Leadership Team and our Arcadis Talent Team.
Professional Profile
  • As a Senior Member of the Sustainability Advisory Team, we would expect you to support our marketing and communications activities including:
    • Speaking at or attending relevant industry events
    • Development of thought leadership
    Whilst not a pre-requisite, involvement in industry initiatives, expert forums or publishing academic papers to enhance your professional profile is supported by Arcadis.


Qualifications & Experience:
  • Experienced in working on a range of renewable energy technologies with a detailed understanding in technical and commercial matters.
  • Experience of tools for used in the industry
  • Strong engineering background, with work experience in the renewable energy sector
  • Experience of interacting with clients and involvement with business development including the development of business cases, define scopes, plan, and delivery of energy projects Chartership or Working towards Chartership.
