The opportunity:

You will work alongside and deliver support to a specialised engineering team that is responsible for the ongoing system support of a major Home Office contract.

The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all recommendations for design changes to the Home Office system proposed by Leonardo or its sub-contractors are compliant to the relevant standards and meet all operational requirements.

The Home Office (HO) retains the position of overall Service Integration and Design Authority, but relies on the Leonardo to act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the individual sub-systems.

In order to fulfil the SME commitments, the Leonardo maintains direct links into the technical design authorities of all key sub-contractors.

The Leonardo Senior Design Engineer also provides the technical link between Leonardo and the Home Office and Leonardo and the HO Technical Authority (R/N), Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE).

In addition to the above, the Leonardo Senior Design Engineer is responsible for supplying technical and commercial responses to change requests from the HO and assists the system support engineering teams with investigations into problems arising at operational sites.

The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all recommendations for design changes to the Home Office system proposed by Leonardo or its sub-contractors are compliant to the relevant standards and meet all operational requirements.

You will work alongside and deliver support to a specialised engineering team that is responsible for the ongoing system support of a major Home Office contract.

The role will require you to occasionally work outside normal office hours and attend site visits at various locations around the UK.

The successful candidate will have an excellent range of knowledge and experience in the integration of systems containing electronic, electrical and mechanical components and sub-systems, ideally with a good working knowledge of the principles of radiation detection.

Specific knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage.

  • IT Networking
  • Windows 2016 Management and support skills
  • Microsoft\xe2\x80\x99s System Centre Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
  • Audit Collection Services (ACS)
  • Microsoft System Center Orchestrator (SCORCH)
  • SQL servers and clustering
  • Windows Failover Cluster Administration
  • iSCSI SAN Storage in Windows Failover Clusters
  • Server build and configuration
  • Firewall and Network Switches
  • Familiarity with software based SAN , HPE VSA Appliance
  • Radiation detection
In addition, experience with MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Project etc is essential.
