Role Overview:

Reporting to the Programme Director, Head of IT Transformation, or equivalent executive sponsor, the IT Project Manager for Business Separation is a pivotal role responsible for a sub workstream (network/infrastructure, enterprise applications or business applications) of the IT-related aspects of separating a divested business unit from its group parent company. This position requires a strategic thinker and a hands-on leader with experience in complex, high-stakes projects involving significant system, infrastructure, and data disentanglement. The IT Project Manager ensures minimal business disruption, manages risk, and guarantees that the separated entity is technologically independent and operationally sound by the end of the transition.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

Project Leadership & Planning:

Develop and manage the overall IT separation project plan, including milestones, deliverables, dependencies, timelines, and resource allocation. Define and implement the roadmap for IT disentanglement, ensuring all transition activities are coordinated effectively with business and group stakeholders.

Stakeholder Management:

Engage and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders including business unit leaders, group parent IT, divestiture project leads, third-party vendors, and regulatory bodies. Facilitate workshops, steering committees, and status meetings to keep all parties informed and aligned. Act as primary liaison between IT teams of the parent group and the divested business.

Separation Execution:

Map, analyse, and document all current IT assets, systems, applications, integrations, and data flows between the parent company and the business to be divested. Lead the migration, recreation, or decommissioning of systems as necessary, ensuring continuity of business operations. Oversee the establishment of new IT infrastructure for the separated business, or adaptation of existing infrastructure for independent operation. Develop and implement plans for data migration, transfer of licenses, and disentanglement of shared platforms or environments.

Risk & Issue Management:

Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with the IT separation, with special consideration for data integrity, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance. Maintain issues logs, escalate critical blockers, and implement contingency measures as required.

Regulatory & Compliance:

Ensure that all IT activities meet legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations, including data protection laws (e.g., GDPR), software licensing, and information security standards. Manage transition service agreements (TSAs) and ensure fulfilment of IT-related commitments during and after the separation.

Budget & Resource Management:

Develop, monitor, and report on project budgets. Ensure cost-effective delivery of all IT separation activities. Secure, allocate, and manage internal and external IT resources, including third-party consultants or service providers.

Change Management & Communication:

Develop and deliver comprehensive change management plans to support users and stakeholders through the transition. Create and distribute regular project communications, updates, and training materials to ensure smooth adoption of new systems and processes.

Post-Separation Support:

Establish and manage post-separation IT support and service levels for the divested business. Define and deliver hypercare period support and ensure knowledge transfer to permanent staff as required.

Required Skills & Experience:

Proven experience as an IT Project Manager in business divestiture, carve-outs, mergers, or large-scale transformation programs. Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects under tight deadlines. Expertise in IT infrastructure, enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and data migration. Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and risk management in transitional environments. Outstanding stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and communication skills at all levels of an organisation. Experience managing budgets, resources, and third-party vendors or consultants. Sharp analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and results-driven approach. Formal project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile) highly desirable. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
