The opportunity:
As a Principal Writer, you'll lead a team of talented writers in creating high quality copy and concepts across a variety of channels and audiences. You'll demonstrate a passion and skill for writing and ideas, and help inspire others to do so.
You'll develop a respected reputation within the agency for your brand knowledge, strategic understanding and for overseeing quality creative and medical writing. You'll support the Copy Leadership Team in the smooth running of the Copy Department and play an active role in shaping and developing it.
You'll work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and make sure your team of writers receive the guidance, direction, and support they need to realise their full potential.
About you:
You're a confident, solutions-focused, experienced writer with a deep understanding of healthcare communications and client dynamics. You're able to interrogate data, interpret strategy, and find the story that makes people care. You thrive in the detail but know how to zoom out to the bigger picture. You're proactive, composed and motivating, someone others turn to for direction and clarity.
Whether you're leading workshops or managing project delivery, you bring focus, creativity and strategic thinking to everything you do. And you care about lifting others as you go.
What you'll bring:
A science degree or equivalent
5+ years' experience in a healthcare agency writing role
The ability to lead relevant sections of client meetings
Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills
Experience in managing copy teams and/or workstreams
Deep knowledge of the ABPI Code and global regulatory frameworks
Desirable but not essential:
+ An awareness of developments in relevant therapeutic areas and disciplines
+ Experience of managing 2-3 people
+ Experience using Veeva and other referencing platforms

Lead copy development across teams, tactics and campaigns
Drive brand narrative and voice across deliverables
Partner with Art Directors, Designers and Strategists to elevate the creative product
Develop award-worthy ideas and inspire your team to do the same
Contribute to and refine creative briefs with insight and clarity

Contribute to and participate in agency goals
Possess a growth mindset
Lead copy planning and resource management for your brand(s)
Manage your team's workload in partnership with PMs and operations
Maintain quality and accuracy across deliverables and reference systems
Use AI tools to enhance efficiency and creativity across the writing team
Review and challenge existing processes to improve team output
Have a flexible approach to work and shifting deadlines
Complete timesheets promptly and ensure others do the same
Relationships and communications
Build trust with clients, providing clarity, reassurance and inspiration
Collaborate closely with internal departments, from strategy to design
Present work persuasively and lead discussions in workshops and meetings
Offer constructive feedback and guidance to junior team members
Help foster a positive, inclusive and collaborative culture

Knowledge and skills
Stay ahead of developments and data in your therapy areas and brand categories
Help shape and implement brand strategy in collaboration with strategic leads
Confidently interpret data and source evidence to support brand messaging
Train team members in best practices for writing, referencing and quality control
Share knowledge and champion the role of copy within the wider agency
Management & leadership
Maintain a high profile within the agency for content knowledge and expertise, and lead the content for designated accounts
Act as the lead writer for your assigned accounts and pitches
Take responsibility for your team's creative output and development
Mentor and empower writers to grow in craft, confidence and responsibility
Partner with your creative and strategic counterparts to drive excellence
Challenge the status quo to improve work quality and team performance
Create a motivating, respectful, and supportive environment for your team
