PIPO is ByteDance's Global Payments Business, playing a crucial role in the monetisation of ByteDance products, including TikTok, while operating in a highly regulated financial services environment. Given the complexity of the regulatory landscape, we require experienced legal professionals with deep expertise in payments, financial services regulation, and compliance.



We are seeking an experienced Privacy Counsel to be part of our Payments and Financial Services Legal BP team, to provide strategic product and commercial privacy legal advice and ensure compliance across PIPO's payments and financial services operations, especially in the Americas region, with focus in Latin America.



This role is pivotal in advising on complex privacy regulatory and commercial matters, structuring compliant business models, and supporting the development of innovative payments and financial services solutions while ensuring adherence to AML, KYC, and other key regulatory frameworks.



Responsibilities

Actively monitor, brief, and advise cross-functional stakeholders on global privacy laws and new legislative and regulatory developments impacting PIPO's business, with special focus in the Americas region. Review new products, features, and initiatives, including the use of AI, to identify relevant legal and regulatory requirements impacting PIPO's business and guide compliance with privacy and data protection laws and internal policies. Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to align multi-jurisdictional assessments and facilitate global privacy design and compliance efforts. Advise on privacy compliance requirements as part of new payments and financial services license application processes, driving privacy compliance programmes supporting such initiatives. Advise on payments-related privacy questions, including those related to the collection and use of data in connection with payments transactions, AML/KYC processes, data retention, and cross-border data transfers. Support the development of internal and external global privacy policies, notices, processes, standards and guidelines relevant to the payments business. Assess and advise on third-party relationships, including data processing agreements and negotiation of privacy-related contract terms. Actively collaborate with a wide variety of internal stakeholders, including product, engineering, compliance, marketing, business development, risk on a range of issues related to product development and commercialisation of financial services products and services, to ensure the effective implementation of privacy and data protection policies and controls across PIPO's business. Participate as a proactive business partner for senior managers and build a trusted advisor relationship.

Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications

Qualified lawyer in the United Kingdom, Brazil or Mexico, with relevant experience, preferably across both private practice and in-house, with exposure in Technology, FinTech &/or Financial Services industries. Strong understanding of privacy and data protection regulations across the Americas, with special focus in Latin America, and especially the ones applicable to payments and financial services. Experience working with jurisdictions in the Americas region, especially Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Canada, etc. Strong contract negotiation skills and an ability to navigate matters independently, demonstrate excellent judgment and decision-making capability with imperfect information. Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and provide practical, business-oriented legal solutions. Exceptional stakeholder management, communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across legal, compliance, product, and risk functions. Has initiative, a positive attitude, collaborative and a confident self-starter who thrives in a fast paced environment, deals well with ambiguity and focuses on driving impact.

Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the clients' business, industry and organisation and shows support for delivery of the product, services and initiatives of the organisation. Demonstrates creativity in finding solutions and uses good judgment in doing so. Demonstrates ability to influence and enlist support.
