We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking
Senior Process Control Engineer
to lead process automation initiatives, optimise system performance, and drive continuous improvement across our manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will be a key technical authority, influencing production strategy, supporting operational teams, and delivering data-driven improvements to control systems.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer looking to make a strategic impact in a technically complex and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and optimisation of process control strategies and automation systems (PLC/SCADA/DCS).
Evaluate and improve existing control systems to ensure stability, reliability, and process consistency.
Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams, including production, maintenance, and engineering.
Conduct advanced diagnostics, root cause analysis, and implement sustainable corrective actions for process disturbances.
Drive continuous improvement projects using Six Sigma/Lean tools to enhance throughput, quality, and energy efficiency.
Manage upgrades, installations, and commissioning of control systems and instrumentation.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Mentor and support junior technicians and engineers in developing their technical capabilities.
Qualifications and Skills
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline.
Minimum 3 years' experience in process control engineering within a metals, steel, or heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Advanced expertise with PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), SCADA systems, and process instrumentation.
Strong understanding of industrial control theory, PID tuning, and data analytics.
Proven experience in leading process improvement initiatives and automation projects.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Strong communication and leadership skills with an ability to influence cross-functional teams.
