A Process Development Technologist works within the food manufacturing industry to develop, optimise, and scale up food products and processes from kitchen or pilot trials to full scale production. They act as a key link between NPD (New Product Development), Technical, Operations teams to ensure new and improved food products can be made efficiently, safely and consistently.
Key Responsibilities:
Product & Process Development.
Support the development of new food products and reformulations from concept to launch.
Conduct pilot trials, scaling recipes and processes from bench-top to manufacturing.
Optimise processing parameters (mixing, heating, cooling, cooking, filling, packaging etc)
Evaluate ingredient functionality, processing performance and product stability.
Recipe & Product Management
Manage and maintain master recipes, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
Work closely with production teams to ensure recipes are followed precisely.
Support new product development with testing, sampling and quality validation.
Technical Documentation
Ensure all new processes meeting food safety and quality standards
Work closely with Technical to validate compliance with regulatory, retailer and internal requirements.
Conduct sensory assessments and support quality improvement initiatives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Working alongside NPD, technical, procurement and operations during development and launch stages.
Communicate trial results, technical challenges and recommendations to the team.
Support continuous improvement projects on efficiency, waste reduction and product consistency.
Operational Excellence:
To ensure all work areas are clean and tidy for the next day or shift;
To work and communicate as a member of the team providing help and assistance where required;
To maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene and cleanliness at all times;
To assist with stock movement where necessary;
To provide a friendly welcome to all members of the team
Undertake training to meet food legislation requirements.
Skills & Experience Required
Strong understanding of food processing technologies and ingredient science.
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Practical hands-on approach with confidence in factory environment
Excellent communication and project management skills
High attention to detail with a commitment of excellence.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects.
Experience with audit processes and continuous improvement methodologies.
Qualifications
Degree in food science, food technology, food engineering or related discipline.
Experience in food manufacturing, process development, NPD, or technical roles preferred.
Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and food safety regulations benefical
