Job Description


My client is looking for a Procurement Manager to lead the procurement team responsible for managing a \xc2\xa320m spend on electronic components, PCB\'s and CEM\'s. My client specialises in tailored procurement solutions that meet each customer\'s unique requirements, and while the primary focus is on sourcing electronic components, the company caters to a broad range of industries. The core competencies include kitting, vendor reduction, and obsolescence management.

Role & Responsibilities

The role primarily entails managing and strategising the procurement function to ensure the "5 rights of procurement" are met while also supporting the overall business objectives. To achieve this, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Sales, Operations, and Finance Managers, setting business targets and working together to attain them.
In addition to working with the Senior Buyer to assist in the development of the team, the successful candidate will conduct reviews, evaluate talent, and provide training where necessary. A key aspect of the role is building positive relationships with suppliers to secure competitive material costs and benefits, improve profitability, and reduce stock.

  • Manage and strategise the procurement function with the Head of Supply Chain
  • Manage, lead and support the procurement team with an onsite everyday presence, which consists of a Senior Buyer, buyers, expeditors and a Senior Project Co-ordinator. Provide and/or deliver training as required
  • Work closely with Sales, Operations and Finance Managers to set targets and collaborate with them to achieve goals.
  • As part of procurement strategy implementation, continuous improvement opportunities should be identified through stakeholder engagement.
  • Report to the head of supply chain a procurement summary on a monthly basis
  • It is important to be knowledgeable of procurement best practices, ensuring alignment with the procurement policy, such as AS9120.
  • Build and develop existing supplier relationships. Investigate, analyse and carry out suitable checks to approve new suppliers (current process needs improvement). Support with creation of AVL. Control permissions on suppliers and consolidate where appropriate.
  • Work closely with key suppliers and the buyers to shift the balance of purchasing towards them and away from online catalogue suppliers where possible
  • Reduce broker spend through forward planning
  • Drive enhancements to MRP system to be able to use it effectively for future orders, this includes data cleansing/tidying/updating
  • Drive allocation to 100%, reduce average hold time on new orders to
  • Control Manufacturing order change requests, ensuring buyers are performing correct actions to approve changes
  • Drive the team to carry out the full end to end process on placing purchase orders, to include entering part numbers, uploading structures and manufacturing orders, allocation, goods inwards and invoice queries, expediting, updating, escalations, cancellations and negotiations. Steer the importance of supplier on time delivery.
  • Improve Data management across the team
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of managing multiple projects, often complex, simultaneously; within a supply chain and manufacturing environment.
  • A good understanding of electronic components, with the ability to cross-refer. Explore data sheets for alternative parts where necessary and assist the buyers to solve sourcing challenges.
  • An eye for detail, accuracy in processing data and information.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills
  • IT Skills - An aptitude for using work systems and an ability to train others. Intermediate ability with Microsoft Office programmes and ERP/MRP
  • Experience managing and supporting a team.
  • CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply or extensive proven experience in managing supply chain.
