We are looking for a skilled and creative freelance professional to join us as a Product Development & Prototyping Consultant, working closely with our team on the research, design, and prototyping and assembling of next-generation tactical and medical bags.
The Role
As a consultant in product development and sewing, you will play a vital role in shaping our R&D and product innovation pipeline. This is a hands-on, technical role that combines design expertise with sewing and assembly mastery, ensuring our prototypes meet the highest functional and quality standards.
You will be responsible for turning ideas into precise patterns and fully functioning prototypes, contributing your expertise in sewing, construction techniques, and product development.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the design team to interpret briefs and translate them into patterns and prototypes.
Apply extensive industrial sewing knowledge to construct durable, field-ready prototypes.
Develop and test bag assemblies, reinforcements, and finishing techniques to optimize strength and usability.
Work on pattern making and design adjustments to achieve efficient, scalable production methods.
Conduct research into new textiles, hardware, and construction techniques, contributing to continuous product innovation.
Provide practical input and recommendations to improve product performance, functionality, and manufacturability.
Support the production team with standard orders due to the nature of the bespoke work we pride ourselves on.
Requirements (Essential)
Knowledge and skills in industry standard bias binding, zips and the like.
Proven experience in industrial sewing and/or bag construction (tactical gear, outdoor equipment, or technical soft goods strongly preferred).
Strong background in pattern making, prototyping, and technical design.
Deep knowledge of materials, textiles, and hardware used in high-performance gear.
Practical experience in assembly techniques and durable construction methods.
Ability to work independently and efficiently as a self-employed professional as well as supporting sewing in different departments.
Strong problem-solving skills and an eye for detail, ensuring functionality and quality in every prototype or product.
