Product Manager

Oxford, United Kingdom

Job Description

At Oxford University Press (OUP), we are not just building an assessment business - we are reshaping the future of English language testing. Backed by one of the most respected global names in education and English language teaching, we are on an ambitious journey to develop and grow our assessment business. Our aim is to become a global leader in the field, delivering innovative, high-quality tests that set new standards in the industry.
Why this matters?
The world of English language assessment is changing. Digital transformation, AI-driven solutions, and evolving learner needs are redefining how tests are designed, delivered, and recognised. We believe that this has created the opportunity for OUP to lead, innovate, and shape the next generation of English language testing at scale.
Why join now?
We're building a customer-centric, product-led Assessment organisation where data, insight, and learner needs drive every decision. Your expertise will define the trajectory of one of our flagship products, Oxford Test of English (OTE), through data-informed strategy, a customer-focused roadmap and a prioritised enhancement pipeline. You'll be part of a highly motivated, cross-functional team and contribute to wider portfolio initiatives, creating high-quality assessment solutions that set new standards in the industry.
As a department of the University of Oxford, our mission guides everything we do. We reinvest in our publishing and assessment to positively impact English language learners worldwide. This role offers the chance to innovate with next-generation assessment models, enhancing how people prepare for and prove their English proficiency.
About the Role
We're looking for a strategic and commercially minded Product Manager to lead the development, positioning, and growth of the Oxford Test of English--one of our flagship assessment products. Responsible for the full product lifecycle, you'll define the product vision and roadmap, lead market research and opportunity testing, and use data-driven insights to inform investment decisions. You'll manage a clear pipeline of product enhancements, monitor performance against KPIs, and ensure strong product-market fit through close collaboration with Marketing, Growth, and other internal teams. This hands-on role requires strong commercial judgement, strategic thinking, and the ability to drive results across cross-functional teams.
As the main internal point of contact for the product, you'll assess opportunities, prioritise initiatives, and work closely with Digital Product, Technology, and other stakeholders to bring them to life. You'll ensure the product complies with regulatory, security, and quality standards, while maintaining a deep understanding of market needs and customer expectations. Your ability to build strong relationships, communicate effectively, and maintain a sharp focus on learner outcomes will be key to delivering an excellent customer experience, sustaining competitive advantage, and achieving revenue and growth targets.
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have/be:

  • Proven experience in product management, ideally within education or edtech sectors.
  • Commercial acumen, with experience developing product strategies, positioning and go-to-market plans.
  • Proven track record of delivering new product features and enhancements, to drive growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Experience working in a highly digital, Agile product development environment, driving cross-team collaboration to deliver product goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse market trends, customer needs, and performance data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across functions and seniority levels.
  • Comfortable working with both qualitative and quantitative data to shape strategy.
