: Product Quality Manager (Timber - Children's Physical Development Products)
Position Overview
We are seeking a meticulous and safety-focused
Product Quality Manager
to lead quality assurance for timber-based children's physical development products. This role ensures our products--ranging from play equipment and educational furniture to developmental toys--are safe, durable, and compliant with the highest regulatory and ethical standards. The successful candidate will combine deep knowledge of timber materials and manufacturing processes with expertise in child safety standards to protect users, strengthen trust, and uphold our brand reputation.

to lead quality and safety standards across our timber-based children's physical development products, including play equipment, educational furniture, and developmental toys.
In this role, you will:
Ensure products meet the highest safety and compliance standards (EN 71, ASTM F963, ISO).
Oversee quality testing for durability, stability, and child-safe finishes.
Audit suppliers and manufacturers, ensuring ethical sourcing and sustainability (FSC, PEFC).
Drive continuous improvements to reduce defects and extend product lifespan.
Work closely with design and production teams to embed safety and ergonomics into new products.
What we're looking for:
Experience in quality management for timber-based consumer products (children's products preferred).
Knowledge of timber materials, finishes, and child safety regulations.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and supplier management skills.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 and quality assurance systems.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain rigorous quality standards tailored to children's products, covering raw timber, coatings, joints, and finished assemblies.
Ensure compliance with international child safety and product standards (e.g., EN 71, ASTM F963, ISO standards for playground equipment, and local regulatory requirements).
Conduct strength, stability, and durability testing, including load-bearing, impact, moisture resistance, and surface finish assessments.
Monitor and control risks relating to sharp edges, entrapment hazards, splintering, toxic finishes, and wear over time.
Lead supplier quality audits, focusing on sustainable sourcing, ethical practices, and certification (e.g., FSC, PEFC).
Oversee corrective and preventive actions for any product failures, customer complaints, or regulatory findings.
Collaborate closely with design and R&D teams to integrate safety, ergonomics, and developmental needs into product development from concept to launch.
Maintain clear, detailed documentation for compliance audits, certifications, and customer assurance.
Train quality staff on children's product-specific safety protocols and timber quality assessment.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve durability, reduce defects, and enhance user safety and product lifespan.
Qualifications & Skills
In-depth knowledge of timber species and engineered woods suited for children's products, including durability and non-toxicity considerations.
Strong familiarity with child safety product regulations (EN 71, ASTM F963, ISO 8124, or equivalents).
Experience managing quality in furniture, play equipment, or consumer products for children.
Proven skills in quality management systems (ISO 9001 preferred) and risk assessment methodologies.
Strong leadership and communication skills, able to influence cross-functional teams and suppliers.
Excellent problem-solving skills with experience in root-cause analysis and preventive action planning.
Preferred Attributes
Practical understanding of ergonomic design for children's age groups and stages of development.
Knowledge of coatings, adhesives, and finishes suitable for children's use (e.g., low VOC, saliva-resistant).
Familiarity with sustainability initiatives in timber product manufacturing.
Experience with third-party certification and testing laboratories.
