Job Description

General Description:

The Production Engineer role sits within the Engineering department and is to provide technical support to the production

teams by setting up work packages and assisting production to carry out the tasks in an efficient and safe manner. This role

will require problem solving technical issues, developing and implementing process changes to reduce labour costs and

improve productivity. They will recommend new simplified and standardized processes and machine tools and equipment in

order to reduce costs and play an active role in the development of team working and to act as an agent for continuous

improvement.

The role requires some commercial awareness, as knowledge of the contractual requirements of the projects is required

when looking at scopes of work and providing assistance with future bid work.

Responsibilities:

To provide Production engineering technical support and develop production processes and work flows in support

of production/operations functions.

Provide/recommend tooling, equipment and facilities to improve the production process. Review of material and process flows and task sequencing. Product areas to cover include rail vehicle mechanical aspects. Knowledge of electrical systems. To carry out risk assessments on new and existing processes using techniques such as FMEA. To compile material requirements, route cards and process sheets to ensure compliance to customers' quality

standards, ensure compliance with railway group standards and Gemini quality processes

Control, review and update all relevant documentation within the process. To provide estimating assistance for new contracts Carry out process assessment/improvements to improve efficiency and reduce costs. To assist the undertaking of make v buy assessments Process approved work requests including identification of parts and obtaining approvals to proceed

Education Requirements

HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline * Confident user of Microsoft office applications
