We are seeking an experienced and hands-on

Production & Engineering Manager

to lead the daily manufacturing operations at our Braintree site. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing production output, process efficiency, and engineering improvements, with a particular focus on people management and mechanical engineering.

The successful candidate will take ownership of ensuring our manufacturing standards are met, continuous improvement is driven across the site, and health and safety is always prioritised. Experience with resistance welding is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

Your main responsibilities will include:

Lead, manage, and motivate the production teams to meet daily production targets. Oversee the manufacture of temporary fencing panels, ensuring quality, safety, and delivery deadlines are consistently achieved. Manage the production schedule to optimise throughput, reduce downtime, and improve overall efficiency. Drive a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement throughout the site. Identify and implement process and engineering improvements, working closely with the wider Operations and SHEQ teams. Ensure machinery and equipment are maintained and compliant with regulatory standards. Provide technical support and guidance across the team, especially in areas related to mechanical engineering and welding processes. Monitor KPIs and produce regular performance reports for senior management. Manage resources effectively in line with operational goals.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:

Proven experience in a similar Production, Manufacturing or Engineering Management role, ideally within a metal fabrication or industrial setting. Strong people leadership skills with a hands-on, proactive management style. Mechanical engineering background or qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent). Solid understanding of production workflows, health and safety standards, and lean manufacturing principles. Effective communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills. Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Desirable:

Experience with resistance welding or similar welding and fabrication processes. Knowledge of working in a temporary fencing, steel mesh or construction-related manufacturing environment.
