Production Manager
to lead our dynamic production operation.
Job Purpose:
As
Production Manager
, you will lead the end-to-end processing of new, used, and refurbished waste collection vehicles--ensuring quality, efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction. This role is critical in overseeing multiple production streams, maintaining standards, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management
Manage and motivate production teams handling new builds, refurbishments, and repairs.
Design and maintain efficient workflows to meet demand and reduce vehicle turnaround times.
Support staff development through coaching, training, and performance reviews.
Operational Oversight
Oversee the full vehicle processing lifecycle: inspection, disassembly, refurbishment, reassembly, testing, and quality assurance.
Ensure adherence to technical drawings/specs, health & safety, and environmental standards.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and logistics teams to guarantee timely parts availability.
Quality & Compliance
Lead the implementation and auditing of quality control procedures.
Ensure compliance with ISO, HSE, and industry regulations through regular inspections and process reviews.
Investigate faults, drive corrective actions, and reduce non-conformities.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and execute process improvements to reduce waste, improve quality, and enhance operational efficiency.
Champion lean manufacturing initiatives and foster a culture of problem-solving and innovation.
Reporting & Communication
Prepare detailed reports on production metrics, KPI performance, and forecasts for senior management.
Collaborate closely with sales, customer service, and technical teams to ensure customer expectations are exceeded.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
Significant experience in a production management role within automotive, heavy vehicle, or waste sector environments.
In-depth knowledge of vehicle refurbishment, mechanical systems, and hydraulics.
Demonstrated success implementing lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement strategies.
Strong leadership, project coordination, and team development skills.
Proficiency in production planning and ERP systems.
Desirable:
Engineering qualifications (HNC/HND/Degree level).
Familiarity with waste collection vehicle body types (e.g. RCVs, hookloaders, skips).
Able to manage multiple priorities in a high-throughput, fast-paced environment.
