The Production Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and control of manufacturing activities within a UK CAA Part-21G approved production organisation. This role ensures that all aircraft parts, assemblies, and products are produced safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements, internal procedures, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance (Part-21G)
Ensure all production activities comply with UK CAA Part-21G requirements and organisational procedures.
Maintain a detailed understanding of the Production Organisation Exposition (POE) and ensure adherence throughout the team.
Work closely with the Compliance/Quality department to address audit findings and implement corrective actions.
Support CAA audits, surveillance activities, and approval renewals.
Production Planning & Control
Develop, manage, and optimise production schedules based on customer demand, project priorities, and resource availability.
Ensure work orders, build records, and associated documentation are completed accurately and on time.
Monitor production workflows to identify bottlenecks and implement effective solutions.
Leadership & Team Management
Lead and supervise production staff, ensuring appropriate training, competency, and authorisations are maintained.
Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Manage staffing levels, shift patterns, and resource allocation to meet production targets.
Quality & Product Integrity
Ensure products conform to approved design data and internal quality requirements.
Authorise and control the use of tooling, equipment, and manufacturing aids.
Support non-conformance investigations, root-cause analysis, and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
Work with the Quality Manager and Certifying Staff to ensure timely issue of EASA/CAA Form 1 certificates.
Process & Continuous Improvement
Drive production efficiency through lean manufacturing principles, process optimisation, and waste reduction.
Implement and maintain KPIs related to quality, delivery, cost, and safety performance.
Support the introduction of new products, manufacturing technologies, and equipment.
Health, Safety & Environment
Ensure all production activities comply with HSE legislation and organisational safety policies.
Conduct risk assessments and promote safe working practices across the production environment.
Experience & QualificationsEssential
Experience in a manufacturing environment within aerospace or another regulated industry.
In-depth knowledge of
UK CAA Part-21G
requirements.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Proven ability to manage production schedules, resources, and workflow.
Experience with quality systems (e.g., AS9100, Part-21, Part-145).
Desirable
Technical background in aerospace engineering or manufacturing.
Experience interfacing with aviation authorities or customers.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
Formal management qualification or relevant training.
