About the Role
We're looking for a hardworking, reliable Production Operative to join our Powder Coating Department, supporting our two production lines. You'll work alongside a team of powder coaters and supervisors, preparing a wide range of steel, aluminum, and galvanized products ready for coating.
You'll be hands-on every day - grinding, fettling, cleaning, and hanging metalwork of all shapes and sizes. It's a physical, fast-paced role where attention to detail, safe working, and teamwork are essential.
Hours of work are
8:00 am - 16:45 pm, Monday to Friday (40 hours)
. It's our busiest department, so there is a lot of overtime available, including weekend work.
Pay is
12.21 per hour
. Overtime:
Weekdays & up to 12pm Saturday - time and a half
After 12pm Saturday & all day Sunday - double time
Monthly departmental performance bonus
, based on turnover and quality (discretionary).
After 6 months
top performers earn an additional performance bonus
based on their performance review (discretionary).
Your main duties will include:
Preparing metalwork for powder coating - fettling using angle grinders, sandpaper, files, and wire brushes.
Identifying and changing broken discs and pads on angle grinders.
Knowing which direction and method to fettle flats, tubes, box sections, round bars, and tight gaps.
Preparing galvanized, black steel, aluminum, and shot-blasted work for coating (including etching, priming, and cleaning).
Using cranes and lifting equipment safely and knowing when an item requires crane assistance.
Hanging items correctly for coating - including small parts, large architectural pieces, and muti-line or oversized work.
Maintaining a clean and safe working area and following all PPE requirements.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
Has experience in a production, metalworking, or fabrication environment
Can confidently use hand tools and angle grinders
Takes pride in doing a job properly and to a high standard
Works well as part of a team and follows instructions
Is physically fit and happy to be on their feet all day
Is willing to work overtime and, in future, possible shift work (afternoon or night shifts)
Training will be provided for all processes, with further opportunities to learn
