Production Planner

to join the Special Metals Wiggin (SMW) team.

Job Overview

:

Reporting to the Planning Manager, the Planner role supports a full customer contact service, including order progressing, expediting deliveries, initiating order amendments and operating sales support system via Customer Services Function or directly with the Customer as required.

Plans, schedules and routes products to meet material/delivery requirements, for orders and enquiries using the computerized systems to control orders, material supply and work in progress. Monitors, coordinates and participates in the activities of metal control systems, including outwork requirements.

Responsibilities:



Translating customer order documentation and relevant approved specifications inherent in the job. Controls and coordinates the scheduling and metals control of material/orders and their process routes, maintaining process and other stocks at minimum levels, cycling slow moving stock effectively. Loads and allocates material to orders matching the needs of the customer whilst making best use of available resources, ensuring that all material complies with and is processed using the required procedures, etc. Controls all aspects of the manufacturing cycle taking corrective actions to meet due dates and minimise late orders. Liaises with customer on changes to order requirements giving advice on individual and combined effects on workload etc. Translates customer documentation into clear manufacturing instructions by calculation, identification, recording and route compilation. Obtains from manufacturing, technical department new or alternative routes where departures from normal procedures and material is required. Clarifies and actions via Routes/Systems and work documentation special requirements such as heat treatment, split loads, multiple cutting instructions etc. Maintains effective working knowledge of manual/computerised systems and documentation to give a flexible response to changes in workload, procedures, priorities etc. and to identify system weaknesses, changes, enhancement required to produce greater effectiveness. Controls, applies, coordinates metals control systems ensuring that activities comply with procedures and information is accurate and timely, resolves queries and problems instigating corrective action in other departments, where necessary. Coordinates workloads and temporary relocations to meet clerical work. Monitors data, information integrity within Metals Control and scheduling systems, corrects errors and discrepancies. Maintains liaison with Accounts and participates in audits, (internal and external) stocktaking, listing etc. ensures records are correct and up to date. Liaises with outworkers in arranging production programmes and controls documentation for material to be sourced at outworker. Reprocessing of customer returns, hire work, ensuring that arrangements are made for receipt, dispatch, return and effective metals control. Gives a full customer contact service including processing orders, resolving problems, liaising with Warehouse and Dispatch to expedite deliveries, effecting amendments to customer orders through sales support. Coordinates direct sales of consignment stock and finished stocks including reservation, allocation, replenishment and order vetting. Gives effective 'delivery estimate' response to marketing, order entry and area sales. Accomplishes all tasks as appropriate.

Education/ Qualifications/ Experience Required:



3 A Levels. Proven experience in production planning/ scheduling or a related field within a manufacturing environment. Minimum - 1 year experience within manufacturing environment essential. Understanding of production processes.
