Based in Avonmouth, Plant-Ex ingredients in an international company specialising in the manufacture of Natural Food Ingredient Solutions, supplying across the globe either directly through our own facilities or through a number of selected distribution partners.

We are looking for a Production Supervisor to lead one of our 4 on, 4 off shift patterns.

We are running teams of three operators on two machines on a 4o4o shift pattern.

The main purpose of the role is to lead and supervise production operations within a food ingredient manufacturing environment, ensuring all production, quality, safety, and people-related objectives are met.

The Production Supervisor is responsible for coordinating staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal standards, maintaining a clean and efficient production environment, and driving a culture of continuous improvement and team engagement.

THIS POSITION IS ON A 4 ON 4 OFF SHIFT PATTERN 06:00 - 18:30 AND 18:00 - 06:30

Main responsibilities

Provide clear, consistent leadership to all production staff during the shift, maintaining a visible presence on the production floor.

Conduct regular 1:1s (one-to-one meetings) with direct reports to support development, address concerns, and monitor performance.

Manage shift staffing levels, authorising breaks and annual leave requests, and reallocating tasks to meet production priorities efficiently.

Delegate tasks effectively to ensure smooth workflow and team accountability.

Ensure all production targets and deadlines are met in line with customer order dispatch dates.

Ensure all production activities are compliant with BRC, HACCP, and company food safety standards.

Monitor the preparation and processing of batches (slurries, drying, mixing, etc.) to ensure correct recipe adherence, quality, and traceability.

Ensure the shift adheres to the Cleaning Schedule, maintaining hygiene standards aligned with company and BRC expectations.

Lead effective shift handovers, both verbal and written, using company tools (e.g., logs, emails, reports).

Work collaboratively with other Shift Supervisors and departments to align on production planning, issues, and priorities.

Encourage a culture of continuous improvement by involving the team in identifying waste, inefficiencies, and process improvements.

Ensure the production area, warehouse, and workstations are clean, organized, and free of debris at all times.

Maintain high housekeeping standards during the shift and ensure the factory is clean and ready for the next shift.

Oversee correct wrapping, labelling, and storage of product pallets, ensuring they are not obstructing walkways or workflows.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Previous experience in food manufacturing, at a Supervisory level, with strong leadership and people management skills

Excellent communication, both verbal and written

Attention to detail and compliance-driven mindset

Problem-solving and decision-making ability under pressure

Understanding of food safety regulations and manufacturing processes

Competency in documentation, record-keeping, and process monitoring

Ability to coach, develop, and engage a team

You need to be physically fit and be able to lift 25kg comfortably.

FLT licence would be an advantage but not necessary as the company will organise for you to be trained and certified.

You MUST to be able to reliably commute to Avonmouth and be comfortable working day and night shifts on a rotation basis.
