JOB SUMMARY / OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The role is for an "all-round" production engineer to work in post design support for military communications products. The company are specialist in marine and sub-marine low and very-low frequency communications and are a global leader in this specialist field. As a relatively small organisation, the engineer will be expected to be involved in almost all aspects of production from stock control, electronics assembly, mechanical assembly including moulding, product testing, production documentation and production control.

The role will suit someone who likes to get involved in almost all aspects of manufacturing a product and is not afraid to "muck-in". The product base is high-value, low volume electronic assemblies, specialist wiring harnesses, antennas, amplifiers and control units. Typically, the designs are high reliability, long service items (40-years is not untypical), hence designed to minimise obsolescence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

Managing customer jobs from production through to dispatch Managing suppliers for production parts. Inspect parts to drawings. Assembly electronics and mechanical assemblies. Manufacture cables and wiring harnesses. Test production products to test procedures. Produce regular reports on production progress. Liaising with other departments for test and calibration services where necessary. Comply with company health and safety regulations and policies, quality management systems and environmental policies. Undertake any associated duties as required by the Engineering Manager.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Experience in running production jobs from picking parts & part inspection to assembly & test to final QC & dispatch. Experience of working with electrical & mechanical BOMs & drawings. Experience of dealing with suppliers of components, sub-assemblies and mechanical services (machining and/or box-build) Prepared to work across a range of disciplines as part of a small "hands-on" team of engineers Experience with MS word and excel. Experienced working within an ISO 9001 design

Desirable Attributes

Exposure to MRP systems or works order processing. Exposure of adhesives, potting compounds and cable over moulding. Experience of hydrostatic pressure testing. Comfortable working within a secure data environment.
