Job Description

The Professional Rugby Competitions Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, operational management, and overall delivery of all professional rugby competitions under the WRU's remit, including the International, URC, EPCR, Celtic Challenge and Super Rygbi Cymru competitions. This role will link directly to the One Wales Strategy Deliver inspiring, competitive Clubs and National teams. The role requires a deep understanding of rugby regulatory requirements, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders to ensure the smooth and successful execution of competitions.

35 per week. Monday to Friday.

The Person



Knowledge,

Skills and Experience


Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in sports administration or event management, with a significant focus on professional sports competitions. Prior experience in rugby at a professional or high-performance level is highly desirable. Excellent IT skills, specifically Microsoft package Strong interpersonal skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential Strong interpersonal and relationship management Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance Ability to communicate and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable

The Role



Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities




Oversee the implementation and compliance with World Rugby Regulation 9 Manage Medical sign-in/sign-out procedures for international players and assist with insurance claims Manage World Rugby Regulation 8 (Eligibility), Regulation 4, (Player status, Contracts and Movement) and Regulation 23 (Anti-Doping). Oversee GBE process for NWQP Ensure compliance of professional clubs with relevant competition rules and regulations Coordinate RMB meetings between professional clubs and WRU and ensure compliance with requirements of PRA & Rugby Operating Manual Provide administrative support to WRU Boards and Committees as required As directed by the SRC Governance Committee, develop, maintain, and deliver all operational aspects of SRC, including scheduling, logistics, season coordination, events, and meetings Ensure adherence by all SRC Clubs to their SRC Licence agreements and support license holders in developing the SRC product. Manage and oversee the governance framework for the Super Rygbi Cymru and competition, ensuring compliance with established rules and regulations. Working with the WRU Competitions department, facilitate player registration, transfers, permits, the SRC Salary Cap, and compliance with regulations of all pathways competitions Ensure strict adherence to all relevant rugby laws, regulations, and disciplinary codes. Liaise with World Rugby and other governing bodies to stay updated relevant on regulatory changes. Build and maintain strong relationships with clubs, players, coaches, referees, broadcasters, sponsors, suppliers, WRU Departments, partners, and other key stakeholders. Coordinate post-match and post-tournament reporting data. Work with relevant stakeholders to produce key obligations documents setting agreed standards for each match or event. Manage budget and financial planning of the agreed SRC, ensuring cost-effectiveness, efficiencies, and adherence to financial targets.

WRU Requirements




The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver's License is desirable. This role is subject to a basic/enhanced DBS check.
