The Chair of Political Economy at UCL was created in 1827 in memory of David Ricardo, thus establishing the first Department of Economics in England. The department of Economics has an outstanding international reputation in key areas of current research. It is the only department of economics in the UK to have received the outstanding grade-point average of 3.78 (out of 4) in the 2014 REF with 79% of all indicators of output rated at the highest 4level. According to the grade point average (GPA) on the overall score, the REF 2014 has ranked the Department of Economics at UCL as: o the top Department in the UK in the field of Economics and Econometrics o the top Department at UCL, and o the top Department in any field in any university in the UK This is an extraordinarily positive outcome which documents the Department's outstanding quality in Research. It is the fruit of many years hard work aimed at producing a world leading Department excelling in producing frontier-shifting and policy relevant research The department offers a number of undergraduate degree programmes, a vigorous undergraduate affiliate student programme, Masters programmes in Economics and Finance and a structured MPhil/PhD programme. The Department of Economics at UCL is a medium-sized department by UK standards with a regular academic staff of 50, but it is supplemented with full-time research staff and part-time teaching fellows plus an active programme of academic visitors. About the role

This post is open-ended and full-time position with an ideal start date of September 2026. Salary will be on Grade 10 of the UCL salary scale with a substantial market uplift. Final overall salary will be negotiated depending on skills and experience of the candidate. Candidates should submit their application via the UCL website. Main purpose of the role: To contribute to the enhancement of the department's role as an international leader in the field of econometrics with a focus on modern panel data methods and factor models including applications to the econometrics of networks and related problems. Contributions will include the following: sustained research activity and peer-reviewed research publications in the field of Economics; high quality and innovative undergraduate and graduate teaching of Economics; success in raising research grants and other income to support departmental research and other activities; collaboration and co-operation with colleagues in the above activities.

Duties and Responsibilities: Specific teaching and administrative duties may include but are not limited to: o To teach at undergraduate and graduate level in areas allocated by the Head of Department o To carry out research and produce publications o To participate in departmental/faculty activities aimed at sharing research outcomes and building cross-disciplinary collaboration both within and outside the department o To help with administrative duties as required by the Head of Department o To actively follow and promote UCL policies, including Equal Opportunities To maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health & Safety Regulations
