Following our successful performance in the REF 2021 Teesside University is investing in its research base to strengthen our academic excellence and research leadership in biosciences, social policy, health, culture and digital.

To ensure future sustainability and a pipeline of aspiring leaders we are offering a number of professorial roles for outstanding researchers aligned to our areas of excellence.

We are now recruiting a Professor to be based in our School of Arts and Creative Industries. Colleagues in this school submitted to the REF Art & Design Unit of Assessment (U0A32) in which they scored 14 in the UK for research power. The panel noted strengths in practice-based curatorial research and in film.

We have recently successfully delivered an AHRC funded capital project to develop a research hub at MIMA, our Institute of Modern Art which supports the cross-institutional research centre the Centre for Creativity and Culture.

We are looking for individuals who will help us grow our research footprint and grow and develop our team across a range of themes including, but not exclusively:

  • Practice-based curatorial research
  • Heritage and digital technology crossovers
  • Health and wellbeing, design and creative practice
  • Sustainability and environmental change, arts, design and creative industries.
  • Film and media and advanced media production.
The successful candidate/s will be an international practicing artist and an academic with a research portfolio in experimental museum and/or curatorial practice and/or an academic with a track record in design research engaging publics and communities. Academics may apply for any subject in the school including art, design, curating, media, fashion, film, television, interior design, user experience design, product design, illustration, graphic design, comics, art psychotherapy, journalism, digital PR and sustainable design.
