Professor Of Molecular Imaging And Scientific Director Of Hull Molecular Imaging Centres

Kingston upon Hull, United Kingdom

Job Description

Applicants are required to submit a current CV and covering letter outlining how their qualifications and experience meet the Person Specification within the below.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding scientist to lead our research and knowledge exchange activities in Molecular Imaging. We aim to be one of the premier bench-to-bedside translational molecular imaging units in the UK, accessing an untapped patient population with entrenched health inequalities for molecular imaging trials, with our world-leading scientific and clinical expertise. A 10-year \xc2\xa315 million strategically planned programme across the University of Hull, Hull York Medical School and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with generous support from the Daisy Appeal charity ( ), is coming to fruition with the imminent completion (Quarter 4, 2023) of our research-driven state-of-the-art GMP Molecular Imaging Research Centre.

This position (and Molecular Imaging research) is based within our new Biomedical Institute for Multimorbidity (BIM). BIM is an ambitious new venture, seeking to use existing strengths in biomedical sciences within Hull York Medical School to make major discoveries in the complex interactions that occur on a whole-body level in health and disease. This is an exciting opportunity to be a member of the new Institute; the appointee will benefit from links with existing research academics and with close clinical links with colleagues in Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The postholder will join a team of scientists and clinicians that are focused on molecular imaging research and will be expected to lead this work and drive the scientific endeavor going forwards. You will be expected to lead and contribute to the development and delivery of cutting-edge research studies, generating external research income and REF-returnable research outputs of international quality. While the focus of this position will be research, you will also be expected to deliver excellent teaching within our undergraduate and taught Masters degree programmes, as well as offering high quality undergraduate and postgraduate research project supervision.

We will appoint a candidate who aligns to our values:

  • Everyone Counts: We promote a culture of diversity, respect and aspiration, and empower everyone to realise their potential.
  • Pursuing Excellence: We combine a pioneering approach with innovative methods to drive excellence in all we do.
  • Socially Responsible: We are dedicated to public service and to improving lives within our communities.
  • Collaborative: We work in partnership, recognising the strengths of others.
We particularly welcome applications from female candidates, and candidates who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are under-represented in the University of Hull and within the academic staff group in the School.

To discuss this role informally, please contact Professor Tim Palmer ( ) or Professor Una Macleod ( ).
