We're looking for a highly organised and proactive Programmes Assistant to support candidate engagement, ensure the smooth delivery of our programmes and events, and help drive operational excellence at Bridging the Bar.

Job Title:

Programmes Assistant

Location:

Remote (c. once a month travel to London and other UK cities, with expenses reimbursed)

Contract:

6-month rolling contract (with strong intention to extend)

Working Hours:

40 hours per week, 9:00-18:00, Monday to Friday

Weekend Work:

1-2 Saturdays per month (September to June), with time off in lieu

Salary:

25,396.80 per annum basic salary.

About Bridging the Bar



Bridging the Bar (BTB) is an award-winning charity working to increase diversity at the Bar of England and Wales. We support aspiring barristers from underrepresented backgrounds through a range of high-impact programmes, events, and partnerships with leading chambers, law firms, and institutions.

The Role



We are seeking a highly organised, enthusiastic, and proactive Programmes Assistant to support the smooth delivery of BTB's programmes and events. This role sits at the heart of BTB's programme operations, working closely with candidates, partners, and internal teams to ensure the success of our placements, events, and candidate experience.

The Programmes Assistant will provide support across a range of functions, including candidate communication, placement coordination, event logistics, external comms, and general team support; all requiring outstanding attention to detail and confidence working with others. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys variety in their work, and takes initiative to keep things running seamlessly behind the scenes.

Key Responsibilities



Candidate Communications & Support



Act as a first point of contact for programme candidates, responding to queries and providing ongoing support Manage onboarding and offboarding processes efficiently Track candidate engagement and participation across programmes Manage candidate applications for financial reimbursement and other programme elements Review and check candidate-submitted work where necessary

Academy Administration



Organise and coordinate placements with chambers and partner organisations Proactively resolve any issues during placements to ensure they run smoothly Contribute to the production of materials and documentation for programme delivery Support the design and continuous improvement of programme structures

Events Support and Attendance



Assist with event planning and provide on-the-day support Welcome guests, liaise with speakers, and support candidates throughout events Assist the photographer, conduct informal interviews, and carry out logistical tasks as needed Represent BTB professionally at external events

External Communications



Manage mailing lists and support communications with external stakeholders Create and distribute engaging materials, including newsletters and social media content Monitor and respond to incoming emails from partner organisations and the wider public

Programme Team Support



Support the Programmes Manager with preparation for internal meetings, including board meetings Taking meeting minutes at stakeholder meetings or internal Board meetings Assist with ad hoc administrative and operational tasks across the team Contribute to collaborative planning and delivery across the organisation

About You



Essential



Exceptionally organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Proactive and solution-oriented, with a strong sense of personal initiative Strong written and verbal communication skills Comfortable working independently and as part of a remote team Reliable, detail-focused, and adaptable to new challenges

Desirable



Comfortable engaging with the public, including speaking with guests, candidates, and stakeholders at events Previous experience in events, programme delivery, or administrative roles Interest in or experience working in the legal, charity, or social mobility sectors Confident using Google Workspace and digital communication tools Familiarity with basic content creation for social media or email campaigns
