Medway Adult Education is passionate about supporting adults in Medway to gain skills and qualifications to improve their life chances. The Service offers highly successful part-time courses for adults at its centres in Rochester and Gillingham and several community venues across Medway, in the daytime and evening, with some online classes. The curriculum includes courses for English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in which our learners thrive and make excellent progress.
To meet the increased demand for adult education, the Service seeks an ESOL Programme Coordinator (0.8 FTE) to lead a busy, dynamic, and growing department delivering both non-accredited and accredited ESOL qualifications from Entry Level to Level 2.
As part of our highly skilled team, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in our learners' lives and contribute to our service's success. You will possess a strong awareness of high-quality inspirational teaching, learning, and assessment, and you will support colleagues in developing and maintaining their professional practices through coaching and mentoring. Successful candidates will have relevant subject-specific ESOL qualifications and expertise such as DTLLS/PGCE/CertEd/Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training.
If you have a passion for teaching ESOL and are keen to be part of a forward-thinking education environment, we would love to hear from you!
The successful post holder will be subject to a Standard DBS check.
Interviews will be held week commencing 1st December 2025

Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council. These frameworks provide a mechanism for employees to take ownership of their development within their post and be rewarded accordingly. The salary you will be offered will be at level A. There will be further opportunity once in post to progress from level A to B, and B to C.
When writing your application, it is important to ensure you identify your suitability against the requirements of the job profile, as this information will be used for shortlisting and may contribute to the CPF assessment. Your application may be rejected if the minimum required criteria is not met. Further information relating to the requirements for this role can be found in the CPF Guidance document attached.
The person specification of a job profile is split into three levels:
Level A details the essential criteria that all applicants must be able to demonstrate through their application and interview.
Level B details the developed competencies that an individual who is practised in this role would be able to demonstrate and will be a progression of knowledge, experience and skills from level A.
Level C requires the highest level of competence and applicants would need to fully meet and demonstrate all aspects of the job profile, including qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience.
