The Salvation Army forms part of the Christian church and boasts an extensive social remit, providing a range of social and community services, including services for children and the elderly, those trapped in modern day slavery, homeless people, individuals struggling with addiction, and people seeking employment.


Under the leadership of our Service Manager, and working alongside Programme Manager colleagues, you will play a vital role in ensuring that the vulnerable adults who live at Devonport House are supported to achieve focussed and positive life outcomes. Devonport House is a residential 62-bed Lifehouse (homeless hostel), operating a service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.


As Programme Manager, you will be responsible for operationally managing a team of dedicated Support Staff, to ensure that the service delivered is high quality, cost effective and achieving Key Performance Indicators.


We know that line managers are key to ensuring a happy and effective workforce. You will lead your team in maximising client input, with an emphasis on client choice and control. You will manage your team through all points of the employee lifecycle; from recruitment, induction and probation; to successfully developing, motivating and retaining your staff through regular and annual performance reviews. We will ensure that you are developed, supported and managed along that journey to.


Our Lifehouse is busy, and you will be faced with challenging situations. To be successful in this role, you must have existing working knowledge of the main support needs which are commonly faced by homeless and vulnerable people.

You will also need to be able to demonstrate:



Solution focussed skills, with the ability to make decisions under pressure Effective time management skills A true motivation to work with this often complex client group

Whilst prior experience in managing a team is preferred, we are open to considering candidates that are able to show us that they have tenacity, communication and relationship buildings skills that will enable them to thrive in this role and fit within our existing management team.
