Programme Support (mooting Focus) Tutor

Manchester, United Kingdom

Job Description

Manchester Law School - Programme Support (Mooting focus) Tutor
Do you have a law degree and a passion for transforming students' lives?

  • Do you have experience in taking part in mooting and advocacy and are you excited about supporting the next generation in developing their expertise and confidence?
  • Are you interested in supporting successful graduate futures; working with a diverse student community who are committed to enhancing their employability?
If so, we'd love to hear from you to discuss an opportunity to join the award-winning Manchester Law School as a (0.5) Programme Support Tutor.
As part of the Law School's focus on practice-engaged legal education, we are offering an outstanding opportunity for a motivated colleague who wishes to make a difference in transforming student lives and supporting their future success. We are based within a fantastic global city and are a warm, supportive and inclusive Law School community. We were delighted to be awarded 'Law School of the Year' in the Educate North Awards 2025.
Manchester Law School has an excellent reputation in student mooting and advocacy, regularly reaching the latter stages of national competitions and supporting students in first class facilities. We draw on outstanding practitioner expertise on programmes including the Bar Training Course, and are supported by colleagues like Professor David McLachlan KC.
The Programme Support (Mooting focus) Tutor role is designed to provide additional teaching support and guidance to programme delivery across the School. The role would suit a candidate with a strong mooting / advocacy background. You might be in independent practice and seeking a career change, working as freelance tribunal advocate, ahead of securing pupillage or studying part-time for the BTC or another professional programme. This exciting role would enable you to share those skills with the next generation while building up your own professional experiences.
In addition to the support of mooting and advocacy, the successful candidate would have the opportunity to support a wide range of other activities, including end of year degree shows and assisting our programme team with events. There may also be opportunities to contribute to teaching in areas relevant to your expertise and experience, such as our third year LLB Mooting option.
This role is available as a graduate training initiative and is offered on a 0.5 and two year fixed term basis to enable you to develop key skills and experiences with us and to then position you for your next role. As part of your professional development, you will be able to draw on training and development support relevant to your career aspirations - potentially including access to mentoring and marshalling opportunities and other initiatives available to staff teaching on the BTC to maintain currency of practice.
We are proud of our diverse student community and the differences that their experiences bring to the School and to the different professional and social sectors after they successfully graduate. We are keen to ensure that our staff group is as representative as possible and so welcome applications from all sections of the community, irrespective of background, belief or identity. We recognise the benefits that a diverse organisation can bring and particularly encourage applications from groups which are underrepresented in the University workforce.
To apply, please submit your CV and Covering Letter via our application portal. For informal enquiries, please contact Andrew Francis (Dean of Manchester Law School) on Andrew.Francis@mmu.ac.uk
Manchester Metropolitan University is committed to supporting the rights, responsibilities, dignity, health and wellbeing of staff and students through our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
We recognise the benefits and importance of an environment that supports flexible working and are open to conversations about this, as well as any reasonable adjustments required throughout the application process.
