Fixed term contract/secondment for twelve months initially subject to a six-month probationary period contingent on commercial success. This appointment is expected to lead to a permanent role that will be funded from new income generated through commercial activities


Location: Westminster or home-based will be considered


Type: Part-time initially (0.5 FTE), expected to become full-time following completion of the initial term.

About the role

Are you highly organised, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting innovative income-generating projects within local government? We are looking for a Programme Support Officer to join our Business Development Team and help deliver commercial initiatives that support councils and strengthen the LGA's financial sustainability.


In this role, you will provide essential administrative and programme support, helping to develop and coordinate income-generating projects, maintain accurate records, and assist in the preparation of reports, commercial bids, and marketing materials. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure the smooth delivery of commercial activities.

About You

You are a proactive and organised individual with a keen eye for detail and a "can do" attitude. You enjoy working in a fast-paced target-driven commercial environment and are confident managing multiple tasks and deadlines. You are comfortable using Microsoft Office tools and have experience supporting projects or programmes, ideally in a commercial and public sector setting.


You bring valuable experience in supporting income-generating projects, along with strong organisational and administrative skills within a commercial environment. You're proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook - and quick to learn new software packages. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills complement your collaborative and flexible approach to teamwork. Additionally, you have a solid understanding of how local government operates.

Our benefits

LGA annual leave entitlement is 29 days, rising to 31 days after three years' service and to 33 days after five years' service, plus all UK public holidays (pro rata for fixed term and part time contracts).
