Overview
As a Planner & Project Controller, you'll support the planning, tracking, and reporting of projects within our engineering programmes. Working closely with experienced planners and project managers, you'll help maintain schedules, analyse metrics, monitor progress, and assist in cost and risk management activities. Key Responsibilities
Project Scheduling:
Assist in developing and updating project schedules both independently and under the guidance of senior planners. Help track progress and identify potential delays or issues.
Cost & Performance Tracking:
Support the monitoring of project costs and performance data, helping ensure projects stay on track and within budget.
Data & Reporting:
Help prepare and analyse project reports, dashboards, and performance updates for project teams and stakeholders.
Risk & Change Support:
Assist in creating and tracking project risks and changes, learning how to analyse impacts on schedules and budgets.
Documentation & Controls:
Maintain accurate project records, baselines, and logs, ensuring project data is up to date and well organised.
Team Collaboration:
Work with engineers, project managers, and finance teams to keep information consistent and aligned across the programme.
Learning & Development:
Grow your expertise in planning tools and methods such as Earned Value Management (EVM), Integrated Master Schedules (IMS), and risk analysis techniques.
Required skills, qualifications and experience
We're looking for someone who is proactive, organised, and eager to learn about project controls in a technical or engineering environment.
Some experience in project planning, scheduling, or coordination (could be from coursework, internships, or previous roles)
Familiarity with project management or planning software (experience with tools like Open Plan or Primavera P6 would be a bonus)
Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
Good communication and teamwork abilities
Comfortable working with data, spreadsheets, and reporting tools
A willingness to learn about cost control, scheduling, risk management, and advanced Earned Value principles
Relevant qualification or working towards one (e.g., degree, apprenticeship, or certificate in project management, engineering, or related field)
Desirable Skills and Experience
Basic understanding of project management frameworks (e.g. PRINCE2 or APM)
Exposure to planning or reporting in engineering, construction, or technology projects
Interest in developing a career in planning, scheduling, or project controls
Confidence presenting information to team members or stakeholders.
