Vacancies have arisen for project controls support in both reactors programme and balance of site. The purpose of the post is to support delivery of the decommissioning programme of work, which includes both projects and operations.






The job holder will demonstrate a detailed knowledge of developing and implementing baselines that encompass resource, cost, risk and logic driven schedules. The job holder will be able to coordinate the flow of information between all groups that may have an influence on projects, and then collate this data to report on progress, plan for future activities, and proactively advise on the impact of possible changes. Required tasks include producing/updating P50 and P80 confidence level schedules and costs, parametric estimating, project sanctioning, and project controls tasks as required.

Project controls are the practice of assessing if the proposed work is worth doing, of preparing for work before it is done, of thinking about what might go wrong before it is done, and of doing something about it if it does. Project controls involve the specialisation of core project management skills of managing scope, time, cost, risk and change. Once the work has started, project controls are about measuring what has been done objectively, forecasting what might happen in the future, and assessing and suggesting action to correct any failings or exploit any successes.


The successful candidate will have the understanding, skills and knowledge required to ensure project controls are in place at all stages of work and will be able to report on them; they will be able to build a good working relationship with colleagues and managers; and they will develop an understand of the environment in which the business operates and the drivers for change.


Responsibilities:




Participate in and provide information on project controls processes and systems to project teams Use recognised best practise in project controls and comply with all Dounreay standards, procedures and instructions Interact proactively/routinely with the project control staff in other areas/interfacing teams for project/operations cost data and expenditure profiles, ensuring that costs are correctly aligned with programme phases, activities and duration Advise project teams of project controls performance issues. Identify developing project control issues and escalate as needed Support the project delivery teams Analyse progress against project baseline Work with project teams to identify/update project and programme risks and associated mitigating actions Producing the required project controls information for sanction of projects Perform the responsibilities of Authorisations relevant to post

Aptitudes and Experience:




HNC in science/business/engineering or equivalent qualification plus experience Relevant experience in project controls IT Literate; experienced in the use of microsoft office software, specifically excel and its functionality A good grounding in maths and a logical thinker with a questioning mind Ability to liaise and communicate with staff at various levels across the organisation (project managers/supervisors/plant and facility managers/safety, environmental, radiological and quality assurance advisors) to reach agreement on work specification, planning, and delivery requirements A self-starter able to set-up and drive systems and to manage own workload whilst understanding limits of authority Effective and flexible team member Ability to work to deadlines Post specific capability analysis assessment
