Job Introduction

An opportunity is available for a Project Delivery & Site Planning Specialist within the Secondary Network Design Team. The position can be based at Hinckley, Leicester, Northampton or Kettering and is primarily covering these areas. The base location (one of the above depots) will be agreed with the successful candidate.


Reporting to the Project Delivery & Site Planning Manager within the Distribution Network Operator, you will be responsible for all aspects of Consents, Wayleaves and Delivery Planning, working closely with a team to provide a specialist consenting, survey and scheme development service to the team ahead of reinforcement.


The Secondary Network Design team are responsible for the design, consenting and delivery planning of the RIIO ED2 load related reinforcement schemes that have been identified by DSO across all four license areas.


The team will work closely with the Secondary System Planning team, who are responsible for the analysis of NGED's HV and LV Distribution System and will identify and prioritise the areas of secondary investment. The team will also work closely with Operations teams who will be responsible for the construction of the projects, to help maximise efficiency and accomplish common objectives.

Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Main Responsibilities
Develop and plan the physical delivery of projects, including, negotiating relevant consents in respect of the location of distribution assets. For larger projects they will undertake project planning applications and to be the point of contact with local authorities and other consultees/objectors. Provide a delivery planning & consenting service to Network Design and Operations, developing schemes in readiness for construction and liaise with the local Operations teams too ensure smooth transition for delivery. Complete 11kV and LV Surveys (Underground and Overhead) identifying equipment required and specify pole heights for design in accordance with company policy. Providing technical support to other Team Members on all surveying aspects Provide guidance and support to the Project Delivery and Planning Support and other team members. Identify training needs of own and other team members and provide training as necessary in consent and survey related matters. Liaise with other Specialists within the Company and keep abreast of all consents related developments. Assess site risks, and take action to remove or avoid those risks and update Project Risk Register. Look to design and plan schemes in accordance with company policy and ensure compliance to required standards and Engineering Recommendations. Issue work to contractors and approve daily work sheets and carry out quality and compliance checks on contractor's works. Other tasks appropriate to the grade.

You should have an analytical mind, with a methodical approach to problem solving and have the ability to present information in a clear and reasoned way.


The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be expected to meet and communicate with our grantors, customers, land agents, local authorities and statutory bodies, attend site meetings and share advice and technical knowledge with our colleagues and contractors.


You should have experience of construction techniques for overhead and underground assets and ideally have knowledge or experience in dealing with landowners to gain consents for planned works. A broad understanding of the environmental obligations, legislation and regulations affecting consents and wayleaves would be advantageous.


In addition, you should have a good knowledge and understanding of Company systems, processes and procedures. You should have proficient negotiation and influencing skills and must be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with customers, landowners and Local Authorities, as well as statutory consultees, objectors and other authorities.


This is a lead role, requiring you to support other team members and this should be demonstrated through relevant experience in the application.


You will need to be mobile throughout the area, therefore a full UK driving licence is required.
