About the role



The Project Delivery Assistant supports the successful delivery of highways and technology schemes across the full project lifecycle -- from feasibility through design and construction to handover -- while ensuring efficient planning and coordination of road space. The role combines operational scheduling responsibilities (including road?space bookings, Traffic Management planning and specialist plant coordination) with broader project delivery support, such as project planning, risk identification, cost and progress tracking, stakeholder engagement and reporting.



Working closely with inspection leads, designers, asset teams, Project Managers, framework contractors and external stakeholders, the postholder helps keep programmes moving at pace, ensures road?space and inspection activities align with wider project objectives, and contributes to safe, timely and cost?effective delivery of schemes. The role also supports the monitoring of delivery performance, promotes proactive problem?solving and helps maintain compliance with relevant contractual, safety and reporting requirements.

What you'll be doing




Support Project Managers and Senior Project Managers across the full project lifecycle -- from feasibility through design and construction -- ensuring schedules, dependencies and inspection activities align with project objectives. Commercial management of the project to include but not limited to cost plan, supply chain quotations, review and approval of invoices, forecasting, review of applications with the commercial team. Adhere and apply the project governance procedure, including leading in presentations both virtual and in person with preparation of the supporting documentation to pass through project gateways. Liaise with Inspectors to group works geographically wherever possible, enabling shared road space and reducing TM costs. Submit road?space bookings via the CPS NOMS system where sharing is not feasible, ensuring timely and accurate information. Participate in road?space coordination meetings, progressing actions promptly to ensure smooth delivery. Liaise with TfL, local authorities and third parties to secure permissions for road closures and diversions, ensuring compliance with relevant requirements. Ensure all planned works have the correct Traffic Management arrangements allocated and confirmed. Assist in developing and maintaining project plans, ensuring activities are sequenced correctly and resourced effectively. Help identify emerging risks, issues and dependencies activities, escalating where appropriate and contributing to practical solutions. Contribute to accurate record?keeping, reporting and change management processes to support contractual compliance (e.g., DBFO). Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal teams (Design, PMO, Commercial, Finance) and external partners (Connect Plus, National Highways, framework contractors, local authorities). Support performance monitoring of contractors and suppliers, ensuring expectations for safety, time, cost and quality are understood and met.



Who we're looking for



Desirable Project Management Experience preferably supported by recognised PM qualification, PRINCE2, APMP etc or working towards such qualification. Broad skills, knowledge and understanding of Highway or Structures Engineering and associated design areas. Awareness of CDM and other H&S legislation Well organised with the ability to plan own workload in an efficient manner Strong IT skills including confidence to learn to use new systems Experience of working in a project environment desirable Ability to consider customer impact of own work
