Project Engineer (M&E) Job description

Full Time, Permanent

We are looking to appoint a Project Engineer to join our Planned Maintenance service, to work within the team to run the Fire Alarm installation and maintenance programmes of work as well as other fire safety related works. This will be both ongoing and upcoming projects.

You will have responsibility as part of the team for contract management and compliance of multiple streams of work on revenue and capital investment projects to Bristol City Council fire alarm installations and other M&E fire safety related items.

To achieve this, they will need experience and or qualifications in the Mechanical and Electrical industry and it is recommended that they have gained a Level 4 qualification in a related engineering background.

You will need to drive forward delivery of programmes of work and ensure they achieve ambitious standards for our residents and also ensure health and safety is maintained to Bristol City Councils highest standards.

You will need strong contract management skills and the ability to build good work relationships with BCC\xe2\x80\x99s contractors.

What will I be doing?

Experience in electrical, fire alarm installation and maintenance works packages, particularly within social housing will be required for the post.

Project management is essential as you will need to work with multiple contractors to help manage day to day activities. The role will require monitoring of contracts to ensure consistent high standards and best value for money is achieved for BCC and its residents.

You will need experience of procuring contracts working with local authority procurement and legal teams and have the ability to assist writing specifications, contract documents and necessary reports. It will be expected that the person is able to manage budgets with accurate data and be able to present this to their line manager for reporting purposes.

You will need to take responsibility of multiple projects to ensure that all relevant Health and Safety, CDM regs responsibilities are adhered to by in house and external contractors reporting issues to their line manager. You will also need to ensure they are compliant with CDM and ensure they are aware of their responsibilities.

We will need a candidate who is fully aware and willing to adapt as the industry changes with particular interest on The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 (7), National Fire Chiefs Guidance (NFCC) and BS5839.

What do I need to have?

We need someone who holds a relevant recognised engineering qualification equivalent to Degree or HNC standard in mechanical or electrical engineering, building services and or extensive practical relevant experience, including membership of a professional body.

You should have the drive to take the initiative to introduce innovations to keep continually improving the service we offer to our residents.
